Dstv quality: dish vs streaming

So are you saying the option is there but it’s not implemented? I have to admit that the picture quality is really good but I guess if it’s 1080 then that’s fine as it’s working nicely for me.

The option is there, if one day on a Sunday, they decide to actually broadcast something at 4K, which they are not currently.

The app says up too 4K with no way, to confirm what he is actually getting.

Yeah as was explained above this was apparently only applicable during the Rugby World Cup and then just stayed there as an option.

I have never even experienced what I would safely call 1080p.

It definitely can’t be 4K , as it be stream is like 5-8mbps tested it on supersport

The 4K option doesn’t work anymore , this option appeared when Dstv was doing 4K broadcasts for the World Cup in 2022

On my 4K tv I get the Option but selecting it looks like 720p or maybe 1080i on my 200mb fibre
Likewise this side, my quality on 4K TV is horrible so I need to watch it through other means so I at least get to watch in 1080P.

Are you saying if its selected on 4K it is actually worse than selecting the 1080P option?

No not worse but the 4K option isn't 4K anymore probably a compressed 1080p or 720p

At this stage SuperSport has not bought any sports rights in 4k or UHD or HDR.

There new OB vans are UHD production vans, so some of the content they are hired to produce locally are done in UHD production.
There first UHD end to end production was the SA20 cricket final and I believe the incoming rugby tour, I know the UHD van was taken to the comrades but not sure if it was UHD outside of the van.

Long story sort some local SS produced events may be available in UHD/4K on there streaming side, but not over dish.
Any international sport won't be as they haven't bought the broadcast package that is UHD/4K and only do turn around on those productions,

Was the rwc streamed in 4k? Thats news to me. Dish only had 1080.

The only dish 4k im aware of was the soccer world cup and some other one off events like a cricket match

On dish you can select 4k in the menu but its still compressed 1080 kuk

Yeah only streaming I believe.

I was in a meeting at SS when this came up, just before the World Cup.
It was stated that MC felt that there was no value in buy a 4K or HDR package for the RWC for its viewers

If I’m not mistaken, there was a special channel created for 4K broadcasts , as it was not on the normal supersport channel not sure if it used satellite or internet as Dstv required the new explora at the time

Is the picture quality of the Single View HD decoder the same as the Explora and Explora Ultra?

I dont need the extras, like catchup etc.
Is there any difference in the quality of the video between the different HD decoders? Or can I just buy the cheapest?

HD is a set of set standards.
DSTV HD standard is 1080i, so any HD decoder with give the same picture.
a Standard is a Standard.

TLDR: no they will be the same picture quality.
I dont think it is that straightforward. But hope it is.

Ive had many streaming boxes, media computers, etc in the past, and while the standards might be the same, the picture quality is not.
