DStv raising prices next month

Well, I just told them to eff off and downgraded tothe Easyview one. Am sick to death of seeing films and series that I saw three years ago when I first joined. Would rather spend +-R120 at my local Video Spot and watch what I want to, when I want to. Again, just wish we had some sort of central Eff You MultiChoice page to centralise all the comments.

Welcome to the world of "Value Based Pricing"! If you believe Marietjie Groenewald's waffle about "an increase in cost of doing business", you probably believe in the Tooth Fairy too. I quit MultiChoice more than a year ago, because we don't belong to the sport church, where the bulk of MultiChoice's "value" lies. If I am one of the select 150 000 South African super rich earning more than R500k p/a (albeit only barely) who refuses to pay these prices, where does that put the poor idiot living in a shack? Because most people in SA don't reason like us, MultiChoice can just keep on increasing their price at will. They know most people will put their kids up for adoption before turning their backs on the sport god, and hence you can be sure of an annual price increase you can set your calendar to. TopTV (which we currently have, but will end in April) has turned out to be not that much more than an encoded transport system for SABC, eTV, and other free2air garbage, (unless of course you consider the two or three Fox channels worth watching). The repeats on MultiChoice are nothing compared to TopTV. I mean a Jakaranda FM playlist doesn't even come close to TopTV in this regard. They run exactly the same stuff they did a year ago. We don't watch TV anymore, because it just isn't worth the effort. In my opinion, if TopTV don't get their act together, this time next year they'll be a vague memory. I think MultiChoice is anticipating this too! They also see that WoW and Super5Media have also amounted to nothing. I wonder who in ICASA is receiving money under the table from them so they can retain their license rights, as they are far over a year overdue? You won't convince me that these two are anything other than "SatelliteTV paychannel license squatters", which should be illegal.

Living in SA is getting more and more expensive..... I only have DSTV because of the PVR, without it DSTV is useless. The only thing I ever watch live these days is the sport.
To be honest, Multichoice is a choice and if you can afford it and find it worth while its your choice. What grates me is the costs we are exposed to that are not a choice..... proposed tolls, high fuel price, increasing food costs, paying private security to do the job the police can't do, rising electricity and water costs e.t.c need I go on.

That said it would be nice if Multichoice could offer "cheaper" contracts without things like HD and 3D that a lot of us will never even use. Unfortunately their "cheap" package doesn't cover the popular channels. Surely they could "dump" many of the less popular channels and keep the prices stable?

Just had people over from the UK, they have Sky TV, with much more channels than we get on DSTV, and together they get Boradband as well as all their phone calls (I take it local or UK) for 50 pounds per month.
We get R500 for DSTV, +- R500 for your ADSL and then your Cell phone bill of how much?
Why cant we get the same? Why is DSTV so expensive and why is the shows on it so poor?

Because we as consumers just accept the overpriced services and pay for it in anyway. If nobody was willing to pay for over priced rubbish, DSTV, Vodacom, Telkom, (Name your Evil Corp here), would be forced to lower their prices and/or include better content.

You seems to be a DSTV agent acting like a customer.. Because you have DSTV, you can't have a good night pout any more. Every customer needs a good deals cos there is a lot of bill to pay not only DSTV.

Ancient thread raised from the grave, so that it's title in the listings is misleading! Did the last poster (in his first posting!) think to look at the dates?
