DSTV Rant Thread...

Any one else having problems with their audio on the HD channel?

Every now and then the there will be no audio for about 30s and sometimes the audio will make sort of a buzzing sound, switching channels normally solve this problem:mad:

I was about to get DSTV in 2009 but judging from these posts I'm about to change my ming.I still think watching re-runs on DSTV is still worth watching than SABC and ETV POS (piece of shyyt) which I have now. Getting a brand new standard decoder and installation costs about R1200 plus the R470 monthly subscribtion is just too much.

Well the repeats are not worth it at all and they are so prevalent these days that I actually skip checking channels that I used to watch religiously. BBC Knowledge is one of those. In fact all of the BBC channels are now repeats - every single one with the odd new content thrown in between, but it is boring crap, such as programs relating to painting your house with the correct brush.

Unless you're a sports fan then DSTV is no longer worth it unfortunately...

My account was suspended in the middle of last month, they say account wasn't paid. Sent them a summary of my payments via the website, not very efficient way. No response whatsoever. Yesterday I decided to call them, spoke to Freedom and she said my account is in credit of R60. Tell them to reconnect, and explained that they were at fault, etc, etc.

Cherry on the top: They charge me a reconnection fee of R50 for their F.U. What am I going to do now, just make no payment and they can disconnect me permanently.

Trying to convince my daughter that we don't need it is another story...

 It may be repeats for long time subscribers but for guys like me who didn't have DSTV since 2003 (was at a student commune), its a first and it is one of the reason I find justification for getting a subscription. Not sure if its worth getting subscription say 6 months and discontinue thereafter until they air new programmes. When you say crap, are you refering to
A ) excessive old re-runs
B ) crap old re-runs
C ) crap new programmes
D ) or (A), (B) and (C)

Surely there must be something worth watching on Discovery or Sci-Fi one of my favs.

good luck doing that with R500:D

Actually R500 goes a long way - thats more than 60Gb of download for starters. That aside, I can collect movies, and rent plenty and i don't have to watch reruns. I can assure you that the lower blood pressure when I see that I'm no longer paying for a show to be on for the 16th time is worth it.

ESPECIALLY the kids shows - the kids get the worst of it.

You can get the standard decoder for R389 at House and Home (checkers). And then a R599 installation voucher where they bring the dish and then sintannd and tune it for you. Just for your information.

DSTV is rather crap these months with all doccie channels show repeat after repeat as DJK says. Mythbusters loses it's attraction very quickly after the same myth is being busted 3rd time running.

So the alternative to DSTV at the moment is either dvd's, downloads or...god forbid...state TV.

Lol - what season is "Deadliest Catch" in??!!
How many flipping seasons of guys catching crabs can one actually watch :p

Not that I'm a big fan of DSTV, got it only for the wife. But lately Mnet is up to date with latest series, not in sync but shows is starting that is still airing in the states. Now they must just try and air same time as states.

I must admit I enjoyed space week this week on National Geographic. I'm getting sick of the "it's gonna be a hot summer, a hot hot summer" adverts though...

Sci-Fi has not been on DStv for years now, where have you been?

And I wouldn't count on Discovery been around for too much longer either (or any other half decent channel that costs monochoice more than a couple of bucks for that matter).

DSTV, please, I beg of you with blood shot eyes, please please please stop playing that desperate housewives in red dresses advert. Please. :(

Why why why why why does the sound blank out every damn time I start watching a movie/series?!:mad::mad::mad::mad: Surf's Up on 103 right now, just lost sound.
I can read lips, but that talent doesn't extend to animated penguins!

I started getting the same issue - buggy system. To fix it, select another "language" with the language button - English family vs English original... it just comes right on its own. It comes back when you change channels tho.
