LOL, @ Page! Multichoice are bringing in thos PVR decoders so that will be cool, fast forward the reruns!

Is the PVR going to be a new model decoder? Cause I'm getting DSTV tomorrow and would hate spending a grand on a decoder if it's out of style tomorrow...

decoders going for R550 now....
noone--is that grand include dish?

nope. called multichoice, apparently it's the recommended retail price, but because im going through an independant oke, he can charge whatever. I don't mind paying if the installation is a quality job. They're charging me less for the installation than anyone else. So it evens out

eyed DSTV in the past, but its wayy too expensive, given that - as folks have said, there's few really specialist chans, the movies they choose are garbage, there shouldnt be endless adverts for the service - given that you're obviously ON the service, and R400+ a month for me, just for CNN/BBC/SKY is a rip..

Someone should come up with a R50 -100 deal for the news geeks, who just want a couple of 24/7 news chans..

Or pay for what you use.
I still reckon the sport channels could be billed separately.

Anyone know why SABC 1,2,3 and E-TV are not received for free on DSTV decoders? Why should u pay if for it if u already paid your TV license?
Thes are free-to-air channels.
Your input would be appreciated, and if u have the satelite codes to put in decoder for these channels please share/email...

AFAIK it costs (costed) R400 or something per year to get these channels on DSTV. Has this changed?

I remember about 10 years back the SABC had their channels on Astrasat, an analog satellite service. It never really took off so they chucked it and moved the channels, including all their radio stations over to Multichoice service. So I'd be quite surprised if suddenly now one has to pay R400 per month instead of R400 odd per year!?

Anyways, you can access these channels on the public bouquet, but it may require some "advanced" tuning. Feverdj, are you aware that the channels you mention is on the "normal" DSTV bouquet and the public bouquet?
AFAIK, non-dstv-subscribers can only get them on the public bouquet.

telkom's advertising may be pointless but come on that add with the dog is just amazing first time i saw say it it nearly brought a tear to my eye

just amazing

eh? you must be new to this country then, cause they always show that add. Guess why the guy could afford calling home from Hong Kong to talk to his dog?

No... come on... guess...

ITS BECAUSE HE'S IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY AND CAN AFFORD TO CALL HOME.

But the ad is fake IMO, noway Telkom has infrastructure where that guy lives...

You can get SABC 1,2,3 and e-TV on the DSTV decoder for a R500 once off fee and then R180 rand per year. It's also possible to switch the full DSTV bouquet on and of on a monthly basis without incuring a "Connection fee"

Hope this helps

Is anyone unhappy with the volume of some of the adverts on DSTV?

That's quite reasonable. Less than R18 per month, good picture quality (that is if your eye is not trained to spot video compression) and stereo sound (that is if your ear is not trained to spot audio compression), and then all the free radio stations.

nice will contact them for correct info then

There is increase every year, Increase to pay the workers and staff, but u right DSTV makes loads of cash...
-Big Brother
