DSTV Stream Show Titles Not Displaying

So it seems they may have reverted to an older version of the web player?
The relatively recent Restart-Show-From-Start button has disappeared, and also, the streams now work again with ad/tracking blocked.

A bit of... fun... for the devs over the past few days perhaps.

On the browser side (the lucky peeps who have that working) , Restart-Show-From-Start button disappears when it suits it, and if you manage to click it it tells you you've used up how many streams you can use :rolleyes:

Is it just me who read the title as “show titties”?

The Restart-Show button still wasn't there this morning, but after reading your message and checking now, it's back. And it's working perfectly.

So the in-browser streaming experience, for now, is back to how it was before all the fun started on Saturday.

The only downgrade annoyance thats remaining from Friday is the forced Home page redirect after Profile Selection, instead of it going back to the Live TV page URL that I input. That should be an easy fix for them unless they're intentionally insisting on shoving the Home page in our face.

Hopefully they do not screw it all up again ...

On yours, not on mine, had just tried it in Firefox.

I think it's this

And - browser catch up is now organised into these categories they keep creating, like all the genres for movies now, so you can't just speed-skim through everything anymore. Not a train smash, but no choice of course.

Does anything work properly in South Africa?

So how can we expect anything DStv related to even work...

Nothing works.

TIA.

DSTV - is not about choice.

Only things that work in this country are the ones - ones that you can manage, by hook or by crook to force to work fairly well.

There are plenty of places to vent about circumstance. Let's not turn this thread into that.
Rather keep it on topic.

For the past few days, the Watch From Start button seems to be coming and going.

Earlier I was watching a show in Brave browser and it wasn't there, only the old Rewind-A-Few-Minutes button was back.
So then closed the stream tab, and a few minutes later re-opened the same show in the same browser window and the Watch From Start button was back.

Maybe they have two versions of the player active with some sort of A/B testing going on for different sessions.

You'd think.. but it's just more unexplainable software from Multimistakes, I've seen the same behaviour.

Could come right now, they've moved it to the left side of the screen. (Still doesn't work for me though.)

Here it's still on the right side where it was before.

On that note, there's definitely some updating/testing/bugging going on - when I opened the BBC Lifestyle stream earlier, the Watch From Start button was gone.
Then switched to BBC Brit and the button came back, so switched back to BBC Lifestyle to check there, and it was back there too.

Clearly the situation with the web player is fluid, so just going to let it be for now.

Got the new interface today for the first time - Watch From Start is on the far left of the controls overlay, and there's a new Show Info button under the stream controls, which overlays a blurb about the current show that's streaming.
Pretty good improvement - here's to hoping it doesn't regress again.

More good news. It seems with this updated interface, they've finally fixed Click To Pause/Play on the stream.

Before it was seemingly random as to whether the stream video player would respond to clicks on the video, making it unpredictable and annoying to use that for pause/play. Now, like most other streaming players, it just works wherever and whenever one clicks on the video.

May not sound like much but is a significant UX improvement resolving a years-old bug.

Further enhancement noticed: A button that gives a full 24 hours guide for the channel you're busy viewing. Now that's impressive, and done without new bugs.

On which platform did you notice this? (the Web player?)

And how does this differ from the "Channel line-up" button that's been around since November/December?
It sounds like the same thing to me.

Yep. Firefox on Ubuntu in my case.

Button is at the bottom when the controls are visible (when you move your mouse pointer) and called "Show Info".

But I've now seen it doesn't offer a full day of info on some channels. Maybe still a work in progress
I'll leave it there.
