DStv streaming now supports up to two concurrent streams

Their business model makes no sense.

They needed to go the way of Netflix, offer movies and TV shows as a box set or as airs internationally without adds.

They could have had an add on package for live sporting events for an extra fee.

Then they should have then introduced a cheaper option with adds.

With the amount of adds on a pay service, it is like I am paying DSTV just to watch adds the whole day.

But who am I to advise a multimillion Rand operation that have way more qualified people working for them

Exactly. I don't understand why with Catchup we are forced to watch a 30seconds to 1minute ad... Crazy

It's exactly the point. When they took away the extra stream, everyone was crying about "why can't I watch on another device in my house"...
Why can't I watch outside my house with my extra device lol

Yes exactly but they took that away and "re-introduced" it at a cost so it's still a ripoff. They should have just introduced this "security" feature without cost and allow 3 streams from the same household. That makes sense.

Maybe that was the plan all along to increase revenue..much like their overpriced pvr access :(

Because they (MONOCHOICE) believe with all their heart and soul, that the consumer has no other option but to subscribe to DSTV in order to watch content.

In their view, Netflix and YouTube to don't exist and has no impact on their business model.

In my opinion, they are only dominating because of live sporting events that they broadcast. The moment they competition with regards to live sport, not where you have to get a VPN, they will be dead in the water.

Until that day, we are forced to follow their rules and what they dictate.

Honestly, who can blame them? They see the opportunity to exploit the public because we do not have another option and they are taking it for as long as they can. Who in their rite mind will kill the goose that lays the golden eggs?

better than nothing I suppose...

At least I can watch the cricket/rugby/football sitting at my PC at the same time as my mother-in-law is watching TV again

Edit: @Mike Hoxbig @Yuu - I just read the article properly now - what a crock of shyte - it doesn't apply to 'normal' satellite contracts - only to their 'streaming' contracts.

Useless for me then.

Everyone here talking about how pathetic it is that you have to be on the same IP address, that nobody is talking about the most Multi"choice" feature of them all...

Just an extra R100+pm added to your subscription automatically without first asking you if you want to pay more to stream on your phone or laptop while using the same Wi-Fi. And then calling it a "feature"
The feature is turned on by default on the Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access packages.
Edit: makes you wonder how much mybb is getting paid to promote this, because any half decent journalist should be writing about this. Instead, it's being marketed by mybb as some great new add-on by multichoice

I often use(d) mobile to watch when I'm not at home... other sport event, someone's inconsiderately timed wedding , etc. Will Home Base screw me now ?
Yes because otherwise it opens up that loophole to share accounts again...
