DStv, TopTV ordered to change contracts

What they also can do is, give you discount the more channels you choose, in such a way the more popular channels can still pay for the less popular channels.

So
take 1 channel, pay R50/month for it.
Take 2 channels, pay R90/month for both.
Take 3 channels pay R130/month for all 3.
Take 4 channels pay R160/month for all 4.
ect...

The above prices are crazy expensive, BUT the idea counts. That way they lose less money and still get to do what they want, and see which channels are really useless and they can try and get rid off.

The useless channels probably pay DSTV to be aired and it looks good for the channel count - it appears to be value. What they fail to realise is that it irritates the hell out of everyone to buy new remote controls all the time cause you have to press the buttons so many times to get round the useless channels that is intermixed all over the show.

So far all TopTV has accomplished is to decrease the value of DStv's offering by taking away first broadcast rights on some of the new content. We aren't paying any less for DStv mind you, we're just getting less. To get the same I'll have to sign up to TopTV's crappy package as well.

Yay competition :wtf:

They have a "favourites" EPG on newer decoders (PVR 2P) at least but it's been broken for ages.

Sport in this country will always be the biggest attraction. As long as Dstv/Supersport keep paying the high fees to get the rights, they will keep their prices as is.

I also think they will charge the same, if not more than what they currently charge for bouquets.

DSTV should have a basic 10 channel bouquet like this:

The usual MNet, SABC 1, 2 & 3 and e-tv + 5 other channels that the customer wants.
Not some bouquet that they think we will like.

10 channel, 15 channel, 20 channel, etc.
That is the main reason why I haven't got DSTV is because that if I want to watch the channels I want, I would have to pay for the Premium package. No thanks...

A per channel price, and a discount for more channels (as already suggested) and freebies thrown in as well (the channels they say won't survive).

If we had some idea on the package numbers, new estimates would be so much easier.

I reckon they should throw MTV2 in there somewhere ;)

I think Supersport should just invest in its own broadcast company and cut out the middle man. I will go as far to say that about 75% of the people with DSTV use it mainly for sport. If SS comes and asks, lets say, R250 for a starting package, including like SS1, 2 and 3 (and hopefully whatever channel shows F1) and R400 for the HD channels, they will put DSTV out of business within a couple of years.

You do know Supersport and Multichoice (DStv) are both owned by Naspers.. they're effectively the same company really.

But there is one major flaw:the names of their packages. It's frikken ridiculous.Imagine one night at a braai...
Some dude: Hey Biggie,so which toptv package do you have?
Biggie: I've got the variety + kids and music + knowledge and entertaintment package.

Seriously, why don't they just name it simple like basic, bronze, gold, platinum or even top1,top2,top3.

Because descriptive is better. No one memorizes what channels all packages have. TopTV's way is better.

I would also like for the music to be unbundled from the kiddies channels on TOPTV. My kids are not small anymore.
