Dual citizenship

Citizen of the world! I think all borders are bulls**t put upon us by man. Oh yeah, we own this patch, you can't come in. Probably stole it themselves, in the case of most countries. Give me a break, play them at their own stupid games. Get as many passports as you can. I have 2. And I organised my son 3! Yes, 3! At least he has some options.

Whose going to look after you? Some government? No Sox63, you better look out for yourself. This "loyalty" sh** is nonsense. That's how they get people to fight wars for governments... and die.

Example: Why do we need a Visa to go to France, yet they do not need a via to come to SA.

Surely it should be a give and take situation, and SA is not the rest of Africa.

because it takes about 25 seconds to arrange an illegal SA passport?

I have US.

Son has US (and SA once home affairs gets it act together).

Wife has SA, UK/Euro and US permanent residency.

When we travel we carry three continents in our back pockets. :D

PS - and we may collect more in the future. Passports are the new stamps!

I'm not sure but I don't think the States allow duel citizenship.

Many, many people (new immigrants) have dual citizenship in the US. Does not seem to be an issue. I have never seen anything that says its illegal and I lived there for 15 years.

When I visited SA with my wife and son in the 80's, I was on a SA passport, my wife a Mexican passport and my son a US one. The immigration guy at Jhb airport, looking at the 3 passports said " Jislaaik, the United Nations!"

Sorry ol' Sox ol' buddy; it seems like you and I are the only guys here with only an SA passport.

* The Turd grabs Sox around the neck and rubs the knuckles of his other hand through Sox's hair *

Unfortunately I don't have a dual passport.

I checked it out but my family members got here 200 years to early for me to qualify for a Dutch passport.:(

I missed a UK by one generation :(
Oh well, its up to me then to supply the next generation with one.

Do I differ or more of a risk to the country because I have a SA passport.

Like they won't allow me in with my SA passport without a visa, but they will with my British. Why can they then just not let me in visa free with my SA passport, holding a different passport does not change me as a person.

For one, you can buy passports like candy in SA.

You honestly wnt to know why I keep my dual citizenship?

Please refer to: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=88762

I have a teenage son who will be leaving school in 2 years, he will spend at least another 3 studying ... and then what? As so many others have posted, I am not only keeping my options open but also my family's options open.

The day that this country, and the government who rules it, can guarantee my family's future will be based on competancy and not colour is the day that I will be willing to relinquish my other passport.

I am in agreement with you Jase, well said. I am also dual citizenship (to Britain), as my children (should I ever have any) may not be able to get jobs in this country.

IMO, people should only have one citizenship. If you are South African, then you should be fully committed to SA, not have a Lesotho, or European passport.

Just upsets me thats all, anyone here in such a situation? And could you enlighten us why you choose to keep both passports?
(Haven't read the whole thread) BUT you do not 'choose' to keep both passports. British (EU) passport is a birthright that can only be rescinded by the queen (no matter what bob says.)

There is no choice involved (it is a 'practically' unalterable fact.)

Damn, why does almost everyone have an "insurance policy" already!! Almost all my friends have brittish passports. Am I one of the minority that have to jump through hoops to organize mine?

Anyways, I am glad for the guys that have a choice. And I am glad that they are allowed to keep it.

Sox, WHY whould anyone want to give away a "get out of jail free" ticket? With all the insecurities in our society/country? I recon it will be stupid to give up a UK passport if you have one. I REALLY don't understand why you feel this is a bad thing?

question

Difficult to say, but if he was born there you probably have a right to one regardless of his status. Your entitlement is due to his place of birth, not his current citizenship status.

You blame people for having dual citizenship when there are AA/BEE policies against them, racist comments coming from the ruling party and after having lived in Africa all their lives still not being able to call themselves African because of the color of their skins?

I've lived in Africa all my life. I've never even set a foot on land outside of Africa. I don't know what Europe looks like because I've never been there and yet according to the government I'm still not an African. Makes me wish I had dual citizenship.
