Yeah I follow the GB thread. Those dodgy delivery dates and surprise import fees have made me cautious. I wouldn't mind a Poco or OP6

You can be a rebel and get a dualSIM+microSD Lumia 950 ($299) or Lumia 950 XL ($399) from Amazon.

Brilliant 20mp (Nokia) cam, Win10Mobile. My 950 XL still does all I need with Telkom and AT&T SIM, 128GB mSD, Office (for 8 mail accounts), Slack, Teams, Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram, gps/satnav with downloadable global maps, uber, taxify, and a host of media players, podcast apps and RSS readers and cctv monitors (better than anything I've seen on 'droid). Even my SA bank (investec) has an app.

Oh, I have a Nokia 8 and iPhone 7 Plus. But the Lumia is my daily driver.

I dread the day this phone goes tits-up.

Yeah. 256MB, 3.5" 360x640 screen just doesn't cut it anymore.

The Lumia 950 XL has a Snapdragon 810 chipset with liquid-cooled octa-core A53 and A57 CPU, 3GB RAM, 5.7" 1440x2560 amoled screen, USB-C, removable 3340 mAh battery, iris recognition/unlock, etc, etc. It's still a very viable machine. Most people turn up their nose at Windows 10 Mobile, saying "what about apps?". Apps? Office Mobile built in, and all the main ones among the half-million still in the Store. In any case, with mobile sites and the future in progressive web apps, most of now's apps are soo yesterday...

Still, I realise I'm flogging what for most is a dead horse.

OP must maar go with the flow and follow the masses. ;):p

They didn't block any development they just didn't bother spending resources on an OS that had almost no market share. MS were free to use the public Youtube API like every other 3rd party app but their terrible browser couldn't work with it.

You're just making that up.

1. The browser works fine and has never been an issue. Ever.

2. Msft's first YouTube app for WP allowed adverts to be blocked and videos to be downloaded. Google blocked that and insisted that it violated Terms of Use of the YouTube API. Yes, it's their API and their right, of course. But that's the reason they officially gave.

3. As MJF reports (along with Verge and others), Google insisted that Msft's YouTube app support HTML5 even though their own app for Android and the approved iPhone app didn't at that time - a blatant double standard.

In any case, that all refers to WP7 and WP8. Long gone and dead. The Lumia uses Windows 10 Mobile.

Still, if you're not in locked into the Google ecosystem, the Lumia 950 XL is still, 3 years later, a very viable device. Which is really my main point anyway.

Pure Google spin. There's a word for holding other to a standard you exempt yourself from.

Pretty rich insisting Msft build in HTML5 when Google's own apps for Android and iPhone weren't.
