Not sure how many are aware of the strike which started yesterday. Today it spilled over from the Water Dept to include the DSW people. Town and all roads going in are chaotic at the moment, the nucleus seemingly being City Hall.

Stay out of town for today if you can.

Yesterday we had no water, metro sent in a private contractor to fix the fault. Some striking metro came in black polo to try to disrupt them luckily the Neighborhood Watch chased them off

I've been watching this whole lot unfold from the safety of my office in far off clean Umhlanga...

What pisses me off though is that Metro police are ON scene, and they are not arresting people en masse.

I fully support why the guys are striking, but their actions are not acceptable and should result in mass dismissals and criminal charges.

I have seen some photo's of the protestors emptying truckloads of garbage in the CBD and others of the DSW vehicles blocking the N3 near the Pavillion. Its looks like its getting serious with an intent to cause major disruptions.

why are they striking?

The mayor (or one of her cronies) decided to employ MK Vets because they fought for freedom as Grade 4 General Assistants with zero experience, and then just bumped them up to Grade 10 salary package (so from R9k to R20k)...

Whatsapping someone there atm (gawd knows why) .... apparently plenty of them and even SAPS, just chilling and watching the chaos. It's all been given the ok by the twats in charge

TBH, I can't really blame them for being pissed.

I don't at all... I think they have every right to be pissed....

They have no right to do what they're doing though, regardless of how pissed they are.

Our offices in Kingsmead had the water cut at about 2pm. Told it was due to the strike. Left at 3pm
