Durban water woes continue....

got up to no water today, but this has been going on for years in Phoenix, we have to work around that.
Ethekwini cannot even reach their own deadlines to get water restored.

For me its a concern that they literally don't seem to know what is causing the main issue in Phoenix.

The story seems to change weekly from the city as to why its an issue.

there are so many stories going around blaming the floods, but the water issues in Phoenix has been going on long before the floods, there was scheduled maintenance that was supposed to happen over a few months, we received a schedule for water cuts. This must have been about 4 years ago. Ever since then we have never been back to normal with water.

Its a massive combination of things really, but they all circle back to incompetence and corruption at the end of the day.

Also this claim that we don't have enough water due to population growth is just horseshyte of the highest order when near as damnit 60% of the water supplied to the city is "non-revenue"/lost to leaks etc.

If they fixed that most basic thing, the city could more than double in size and we'd still have enough water.

Water update
22/02/2024

Moseley /Northdene/Escombe/Malvern/Chiltern heights
The situation is not good.
The pumps at Durban Hights Treatment Works are not running so this is affecting the whole southern aqueduct.
This means that the Northdene Reseviors 1,2 and 3 are not getting water.
They are trying to get the pumps started.
I will update again when I have confirmed information.
The city have said that they will put out a statement.
Kind regards,
Cllr Chris van den Berg

Thankfully this doesn't impact me.. but how the actual fsck are all the pumps offline?!?!

I feel sorry for you guys down there... Its the really small things we take for granted that mean the most to us.

Hopefully this all gets sorted soon.

Water came back 9:30PM. You weren't joking about that delay. @Kosmik
Nope, for sure.

Our Firwood side is still a problem this morning though, Day 5 for some with no water. But our issue is old infrastructure, lack of expansion and obviously when loadshedding started, system was never designed to cater.

The Firwood reservoir is still very low, it is sitting at about half a meter.
I will be in contact with the water department during the cause of the day. The recovery will depend on usage and the effects of loadshedding.
Water tankers have been requested.
I will be in contact with Water department during the cause of the day as well to see what can be done further to attempt to speed up the recovery.
I will update when I have further information.
Kind regards,
Cllr Chris van den Berg
