DVD region code on Mac

It can't bypass RPC-2 drives though. The drive runs it's own internal routine to make sure the disk matches it's own region and if not, it won't play. Software like AnyDVD use alternative means of accessing DVD-Video data on a video DVD, ie they force the player to read it as a Data-DVD and that works in most cases of RPC-2 (Region locked) drives. Some drives refuse to do this, eg
Panasonic drives and there is no way to make them region free. The Amazing hackers at AnyDVD are not amazing enough to hack that, in fact any maker could make his DVD-Drive RPC-2 with AnyDVD failing if they chose to implement this method. Only Panasonic is running this method though, at present.

Very informative, +++++++++++ would read again.

Okay i'll try again, format install Linux. It might seem extreme but it will infact solve his problem its hard but its the truth i never lie.

You stupid ignoramus, installing any other operating system will not solve the firmware lock on the dvd regions. The drive is locked down to the emulation layer on the drive itself, it is not a layer between the os and the driver. So please, shut the hell up. Even if you go into windows and try and run the software that region free's it , it will not as it wont read. I have tried on linux, mac, and windows. The only way is to patch it using a RPC1 patch, which is available for certain models of drives, not for mine thou. So i am in the process of dissembling the code, its a bit more tedious than i expected. What Peter said

Thanks guys. Seems as if there is no solution then. I am not going to flash the drive. It is brand new, and I am not going to take the risk of voiding the warranty. I guess I will just have to live with it. I will, however, write a very long letter to Apple to complain about this. It is absolutely ridiculous that they decdided to put such drives in their laptops.
