Ok firstly... I am not too clued up on networking or the lingo but i will try to explain my problem as best as i can.
I have an Android Tablet and a laptop running XP. Tablet has internet connection but i do not want to use it and the laptop doesnt. I do not have a router either.
Basically i linked the tablet to the laptop via wifi tethering. I use it for file sharing and VLC streaming which works fine. Today i tried remote desktop software so that i can control the laptop from my tablet over wifi. It works fine.
Now heres the problem. I create the wifi hotspot when i need it only. The remote desktop software on my tablet requires an ip address to work. The problem is this changes each time i create and disconnect a network.
Is there anyway to lock the ip address? I searched and found out that dns settings will help but that requires the laptop to have internet access which i am trying to avoid.
Anyone knows how to do it?
