e-tag beep

Isn't the eTag supposed to beep to remind you - as in "you are a BEEPing sucker, you just got BEEPed by SANRAL" every time you go under a troll bridge?
Oh I see according to Humberto, they haven't switched on the BEEPing functionality yet.

They charge extra for the beeping sounds.

Edit: This thread made me think about this song...

Do these sanral dildos have batteries in them?
What's the fine for letting the battery go flat if so?
If not and it's a pure transponder, how long before we get a class action suit together for sanral bathing us in so much EM energy that our hair turns grey?

I fitted an e-tag to my car, but it isn't beeping when I drive through gantries. Is there something wrong with the e-tag or is it that the gantries aren't operational yet?

Hi

Make sure you have fitted it horizontal on the windscreen.

I got an email

I'm willing to bet the R2 will be clawed back many times over in "admin fees", "email fees", "sms fees", "statement fees", "fee fees", "incorrect fees", "incorrect fee reversal fees" and "****you fees" within the first 2 months.

I thought taxis were exempted from this?

Yet.

I seem to recall them charging people already a few months ago, but I can't find the articles :/

Dig your heels in as much as you like and join the civil protest. Don't buy an etag and wait for the monthly bills, which no doubt will be ignored. The fact is, some people are not prepared to join what will amount to nothing. You can't blame them. Worse, anyone who bitches that a trade union intimidates people into participating is behaving in a similar manner in this thread - intolerant of those that want to conform, for whatever reason.

OP: while your decision (and the reasons behind it) do defy logic (at least in these circles) take heart that most everyone will end up having to buy these things if the system does not collapse. It could collapse, granted. In the long run, some people will not have a choice around these beeping tags (pool vehicles, livery, etc) and rather than criticise those who do for not joining the protest, we should perhaps show some sympathy and tolerance.

I believe I will accumulate something in the region of R15 per work day in my travels using the troll roads and I will try and stick it out as long as possible BUT if the backroads become a mess and the system actually does start some sort of forced recovery of the money, I know I will have to get a tag. Until that times comes, of course, f 'em.
