So, if I hardly use the planned toll roads, I will still pay for it by the additional levies.

Yes, fuel levies should be used to maintain and upgrade ALL roads.

They will have to give up due to total non compliance from the public.
Even if it is just 20% of the road users, it will result in such a massive paper backlog for them, there won't be enough police on the roads to hunt down all the non payers.

Why do we have to buy a fancy toll system for billions (which will not tax some of the heaviest road users like busses & taxi's) while there is a perfectly good existing method of collecting tax for road maintenance in place? You can bet your bottom dollar some okes got stinking rich from TollgateGate tenders.
Maybe if more people speak out against the ANC/government stealing & misspending our tax money they'd listen. Where did the money earmarked for road maintenance go?

Personally, this is has gone far beyond just the money, I take this dumbass scheme as a personal insult and a challenge to grow a pair for a change.
Each and every SANRAL ad on the radio this week makes me see red. No way in hell I'm getting within 50 metres of those tags.

I'm not buying an e-tag and I won't pay their damn tolls, I will toyi-toyi with COSATU if I have to, if there was any form of consultative process it was not advertised, everyone I speak to all thought upgrading our roads was part of the prep for the 2010 World Cup and was being paid for by government (via our taxes)
I'm seriously contemplating no longer paying income tax as my next step because of the constant ass raping, I'm gatvol!

It's time that we start realizing that the blame for many of these things lies with everyone around you, and it'll spread with every person who doesn't have the balls to think for himself and stand up against something we all know is WRONG. Governments have and always will try to screw everyone over for as long as they can. Complaining about this to SANRAL or whoever is a pointless endeavour.
From now on, instead of ****ting myself about our dumbass government I'm going to point my anger towards people around me who think that "the man" has some kind of magic wand that will destroy your semi-comfortable middle-class world if you don't follow each and every retarded rule. I've already started to approach people I know who are too scared of what might happen if they don't pay. Truth is, our judicial system can't even handle people for drunk driving when they have blood work etc. as proof. There is no way in hell they'll be able to handle thousands of people for outstanding tollgate fees. All they can do is issue extra fines and those are just as easy to ignore.
It's sad to see how deep people will allow themselves to be screwed up the ass because they want the easy (and "right") way out.
Of all the problems this country is currently facing this one is the easiest to solve. Incredibly simple: JUST DON'T PAY, and go on with your life. The sky won't fall, you won't end up begging on a street corner.
So yeah, even if someone lives in Durban they should care about what the Gautengers are doing right now, because I can promise you if this thing doesn't fail and we don't find our balls very soon the turds in power are going to milk us until the camel's back breaks completely.

Most delivery trucks also use this road which means prices of all products sold in the region will increase because of this.
The sad thing is that even companies/trucks that don't use the toll roads will still hike their prices due to "toll fees" just to make more money and shaft the customer.
There may have been public consultation but the financing of the roads and to be more specific the actual toll tariffs were kept a secret until the last minute.
How were the public supposed to engage in the process if they had no idea what the financial impact was going to be?!
I can tell you now that the tariffs where deliberately kept secret in order to keep the public in the dark and out of the consultation process until it was too late to backtrack the project.
I'm not buying an e-tag and I'm not going to sponsor taxi, buses and trucks which create the majority of the damage to the road.
They can fine me and send me a summons to appear in court.
