E-toll disaster even bigger than initially thought

SANRAL would make more money if they even just converted them to advertising gantries and sold board space.

The problem right now is that most Gautengers are treating speeding fines just like e-toll bills.
There is no enforcement.

That is true. But traffic fine enforcement will not be fought like e-tolls are - in fact, it only needs to be enforced. The fact that they're lazy pigs is a different argument altogether.
 
I am not against paying, provided it is collected efficiently and used only to pay off the (legitimate) debt. I am just glad that the generally apathetic (me included) public has finally stood together against blatant inefficiency and corruption.

BTW, have you noticed how the road is deteriorating? Drive in the left lane of the N1 North between Beyers Naude and William Nicol, and you will see what I mean. It's like surfing with all the waviness on the road.

It's been like that for a while - there is a bad stretch southbound between Rivonia and William Nicol as well.

That isn't the problem. The problem is the long term contracts. Remember those Eskom contracts where they were bound to supply electricity at a loss for 10+ years? Yep...same story here. There isn't really a "oh it didn't work lets walk away" option.

There will most likely be penalties - but they most certainly can walk away from the contracts.
