E-tolling implementation delayed until 30 May

Transport's Tiyani Rikhotso said they were influenced by submissions made by the public.

This is an attempt to pull wool over the eyes of judges now and in the future, to make it look like DoT and SANRAL have "extensively consulted" with the public (which was not done extensively in 2007-2008).

Denying that COSATU didn't have a hand in convincing government to postpone etolling is insanse considering that COSATU and the cANCer met for tea and crumpets then announced their "postponement recommendation" mere hours before the postponement was actually announced by DoT/SANRAL.

Next DoT will be saying that OUTA's legal action against DoT/SANRAL etc had nothing to do with the decision to postpone etolling :rolleyes:
 
lying, stealing, corrupt baasteds, the lot of them - let's hope the Judge comes with a toll crushing finding at 11AM

Just thought I'd comment on this since I'm also in Cape Town.

Tolling is terrible and the cost of the administration is a pure waste of money. The money is already squandered though and there is a bill to pay. Either by tolling, an additional levy or by funding from general tax. So the more the Gautengers pay for their road, the less the rest of the country will have to pay. If the tolling goes ahead the rest of the country will be less out of pocket. Food prices may increase slightly country-wide, but the effect of the food price increases will be less than an additional tax/levy purely because the Gautengers will be footing the most of the bill.

Wasn't judgement in court case due at 11:00 this morning. Anyone know what the verdict was?
 
I would be surprised if OUTA don't win this step - FVCK Sanral and Govt!!!

There's not a chance in hell that tolling will spread to other major cities after this saga. This is a once off debt whether they toll Gauteng or not.

I have previously stated that I am not opposed to a Gauteng only (additional) fuel levy to pay for road improvements, but I am vehemently opposed to paying for any of the gantries, their construction and any other etolling costs, that can come out of the personal pockets (not National Treasury) of politicians including Pravin Gordhan's pocket to pay back the pension money stolen from PIC and invested in SANRAL.

SANRAL's Gauteng Road Improvement Project (GRIP) shall not be allowed to squeeze our balls with an inefficient and unworkable toll collection and self enrichment BBBEEEEE scheme.
