It's pretty cheap when you don't have to pay for it yourself. I know for a fact that senior staff were given e-Toll exempt e-tags.

I wonder if it will fall flat on it's face - knowing these motherstickers, they will spend more tax payers' money to rectify the "flat-on-it's-face" scenario. In the end, the only way to stop this shait, is to vote for a party opposing these tolls. But even if this happens, the votes will be spread among the other parties and the cANCer will still get their majority votes.

Something major is being missed here. Depending on what you spend your R1,000 on, up to 14% of that goes straight to the government thanks to VAT. PAYE takes a large chunk even before the R1,000 is in your bank account. If you spend R1,000 on fuel, more than R3 of every liter bought goes to the fuel and RAF levy, despite the fact that it is not used as it should be. The people had to get upset at some stage, and E-toll seems to be the final straw.

Other than the government bailing the system out time and time again, it will just never work.

They won't get the compliance from the private citizen to make this scheme actually work.

Exactly - government will continue to bail them out - so it doesn't matter in their minds whether it actually works or not.

The more desperate ANC/Sanral get, the more unbelievable their lies become and the more threatening they get - the public's hate for them is approaching an all time high - great for coming elections!

I won't get tagged and they will have a helluva time to even get 1c from me

It's only cheap if you are a cadre and can claim for the costs or if you are a taxi.

The rest of us work for our money not like you fat cats robbing the people of this country to fill your coffers.

They seem oblivious to the fact that over the last few years people are already paying 3-4 times more for electricity, double the cost for petrol, crazy food price inflation, astronomical rates and taxes, and salaries haven't gone up by anywhere near the same rate. This is the straw that breaks the backs of many Gautengers and I don't think it will be an easy ride for SANRAL. It is not even a question of choice for many people who simply can't find another R450 per month, and if they do it will come out of money they spend on other "luxuries" which will further decelerate the economy. Yes, R450 is not a lot of money by itself, but it is a lot of extra money when you add it to all the other expenses and people are just scraping by.
 
I think this guy doesn't know the definition of cheap. Tembakazi Mnyaka can pay all the cheap toll fees himself with his salary that he doesn't deserve.
 
even if an e-tag only cost me R10/mnth, I would still not get one, as at least R4 would not go to the roads - it's a wasteful collection system that has to be killed off
 
600k odd tags out there.
Have heard more than once that SANRAL got many old folks to register....

So effectively between 300-400k active users registered, including gauvamint vehicles, of course.

Perhaps they are spilling poop in their granny's panties?
 
Did a spot check at work. Out of 10 people, only 1 bought an etag. I know it isn't scientific.
