e-Tolls will proceed: Kapsch

Okay, but nowhere in the article does he say that e-tolls will proceed. The title is somewhat misleading. He says there is no reason anyone will renege on the contract, which pretty much translates into "there will a substantial financial settlement if e-tolls do not proceed because we are smart and built it into the contract."

I was thinking the same thing, but still, they've got a fat hope in hell that Gautengers will allow e-toll to happen. Legal action or not, e-toll WILL fail. We'll make sure of it.

Just try to steal more of our hard earned money, and we'll show you your asses.

Yes, its an implicit warning of court action if the contract does not go ahead or a settlement is not reached.

My challenge to Kapsch's Austrian directors is to come and live in South Africa, with a sub-R17k salary, and see if it is possible to have :

1. House bond
2. Medical aid (four persons ~ two adults, two kids)
3. Food
4. Loan for two cars (one for him, one for her)
5. School fees (two children) and associated expenses (school clothes etc)
6. Electricity/water/etc levies and taxes (assuming no solar powered geyser)
7. Telkom 4Mb landline and ISP account
8. Fuel
9. Added toll fees and subsequent rise in food prices.

all on that salary of R17k.

Croak he will.

They have not provided alternative routes and are extorting the South African public by forcing them to only use one road. They have not met the requirements of their contract.

It's very simple to sort this out.

We need to find out if South Africa imports anything from Austria or has any other trade relations with them. If we do find anything we simply boycott the products in protest. Sooner or later somebody will hurt enough for it to cause "contracts" to be reviewed.

I think the primary import from Austria is Hard Currency. I suspect the importers of this will not be willing to boycott it.

Fcsk yourself. Kapish?

seconded... Kapsch can go to hell they are not getting a cent out of me. Just for that arrogant remark I will intensify my action against their systems

Come, come now, people. Kapsch are not the villains in this issue. They are simply a supplier to the South Africans who entered into a contract with them. I am sure they acted in good faith, doing the best they could for their shareholders as any responsible company should.

If anything, we should feel sorry for them - that their African principals didn't do their homework and/or are trying to pull a schlenter and are thereby endangering the business deal they've entered into in good faith. It's not their fault South Africa chose the most expensive toll collection system in the world, one rejected by many others including rich US cities because it's too expensive.

Our ire should be reserved for the locals, not the foreigners. When you get free BMW X5s paid for by the taxpayer, what sense of cost or proportion do you really have? In the end we South Africans are to blame, not the Austrians or anyone else.

We suspect the Austrians paid bribes. Hence the anger.

they did pay bribes. my own research turned up the info months before it was made public.

Arthur you are totally wrong. Kapsch approached the ANC as far back as the 1990's to get in here to plunder this country. They are regarded overseas as thieves. They are the true masterminds and their plans were set in motion with bribes

I would have agreed with you, if it wasn't for this:

If they did then the bribes were first solicited by locals. No-one likes to give away more than they can. The problem is of our own making (as South Africans), and our opprobrium should be directed to our fellow citizens, not the foreigners.

I believe that Kapsch has been given the boot out of some European countries. Nonetheless they are well hated even as far as Australia whre some hacking efforts have been made

It takes two to tango...
In no way am I absolving the cretins on this side of any blame - but I ALSO blame Kapsch.

I beg to differ... they approached the ANC that is how Kapsch operates.

Would they mind showing us that contract?

Show us the contract, and then we as a public will decide whether your contract is fair or legal.....

Until such time as the contract is publicly available in an unredacted form, the public will not pay a cent.

Not just the contract, I would like to see every and all links between Kapsch and SA legal entities (even the via via via via ones) and persons to be sure that everything is above board. Somehow I suspect that their will be some interesting finds along the way...

Any chance of publishing some of this research? We are all pretty interested in getting as much info on this as possible.
