Ok, so FYI for everyone. The antenna is on the back of the modem by the CE and serial numbers.

I can confirm that the external antenna connector most definitely doesn't connect to the primary antenna circuit.

So when in use the antenna generally faces the ground? Correct me if i am wrong or have i misunderstood your images ...? No wait its below the light, so it does face up but on the back half just a few millimeters below the light, correct?

humpty is already back together again with a minor mod in testing. If anyone does decide to venture surgery on theirs be very careful there are 2 screws internal hidden and you need to take of the one side first otherwise they are not accessible.

maximum_ian: You are correct in the first assumption, it is on the opposite side to the led and closer to the ground (i.e. on the sim-card side). I doubt its directional as such tho... never turned my laptop upside down to test and on the router it's irrelevant :D

I looked to me to be slightly directional when I tested with the corner reflector. That is the modem must face with its flat side towards the direction of the tower, or in the corner reflector's case, the modem must face with its flat side towards the walls of the reflector.

That's what I canna understand... that tiny antenna packs a lot more whooossshhh into that speedstick than the internal antenna of a B970b router....

it is interesting though, that I've found the poynting inductive coupler to be most effective with the coupler board positioned above the LED light of the modem. I would have expected it to work best where the internal antenna is located?

I havent noticed any kind of significant difference between the two sides with the coupler - will do a bit of tests.

I'll also do a check with a direct external bypassing the coupler etc and see.

On the picture is SECOND antenna!
Main one is around the end of the stick - close to the LED. Main one printed on the film, consist of the 1/4 wave vibrators for the 2100 (short one) and 900MHz (long strip) and wrapped around PCB.
Antenna on the picture working as diversity antenna with low gain. Even "normal" 1/4wave vibrator works much better.
My modem inside room get 3M download. When i connect 85mm wire to the connector it going up to 6-7M! Wire dia 0.55mm, total lenght - 90mm. DO NOT INCERT IT DEEPER THAN 5mm!!!
When you incert this "antenna" to the connector it disconnect this internal one which shown on the picture in the first post.

Lol this looks like fun.

Any idea if that antennae would help with EDGE as well?

Are you referring to the E1820 or the other models ?
