E1820 / Windows 7 64-bit?

OK - Win7 64bit ain't the problem.

To recap - Everything has loaded correctly,he connects but no website will load?
On win xp the stick works fine.

It's not disconnecting & he has to reconnect?(leading to a power supply or signal problem)
His signal strength is ok?(leading to signal issue)
Disable firewall just to check that's not stopping anything.
Check the ECN setting just to confirm is not the issue.
Try another USB port - needs USB 2.0 - if laptop, swap sides that the stick is plugged into.
If using a USB extension cable, try it without it - Plug directly to USB on PC/Laptop.
New laptop maybe do win updates.

See if that gets him anywhere.
Bet the thing has norton on it

Hi,

I'm going to wait for him to get in today to answer some questions, but from what I saw :

It connects and pages do load for a few minutes. Thereafter it doesn't disconnect - but throughput drops and nothing can be done.
Signal is all good.
Checked the ECN - was as it should be
I think he tried all ports - but will double check. It's a brand new i3 - so should be USB 2.0

I'll let you know ;)

See on another thread sounded like you got it working, what was the problem?

Hi Tun@

Sorry - I never got back to you with feedback!

We *still* couldn't get his laptop to work for more than 2 or 3 minutes before getting no through put. However, he's got another 32-bit machine and he's not fussy - so he'll use that and he's happy with it.

However - I want to buy one as well and since I've got 64 bit, I was a little nervous of his situation. He lent it to me over night to test signal and if it worked on my machine - which it did. Obviously he's got some software conflicting or some other error ... but happy mine worked ;)

I'll admit - I expected faster, but that said it's faster than both my Vodacom and Telkom. Plus I'd get it mostly because of the amount of data. I'm going to be starting a new thread on speed.

Problem Solved...?

I have a problem with my black Cell C modem (the E1820). Not because its black, but because I can't stay connected *old Mweb jingle*. Sometimes I can stay connected for hours, sometimes not even for a few seconds. It is VERY annoying, especially to co-players in online games.

Like the good consumer I am, I took it back to the store. The Cell C rep told me its a network problem they are aware of and it should take 15 days to fix from last week Friday (10 Dec 2010). However, the problem does not seem to exists on PCs using anything but Windows 7 64 (which I use in connection with my HP Pavilion dv6) O.o

Strange.

However, using the wonderful tool that is Google I found the following link:

It seems to, well it does, upgrade your firmware. I tried this and so far so good...

As comment I realised that at EDGE-speed it does not disconnect, only at HSPU+ and WCDMA... as far as I can tell. When network traffic is apparently low during awkward hours the connection seems more stable. This supports the rep's claim.

As I said, after the firmware upgrade all seems well. I will continue to test with the firmware upgrade and report back if my party members in WoW keep /spit -ing at me.

I had VMware installed on my laptop and after removing it autorun started working and i was able to install the software and drivers. But the drivers are constantly failing on 3G modem and im getting this error in device manager "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)".

Im guessing that VMware might have done something to my usb drivers or settings, is there anyway to fix this?

Maybe try deleting the Cell C directory that's left in Program files after you've uninstalled Cell C.
I've got VMware installed & don't get that problem -
What will happen if you have VMware running when you plug in the stick is the VM will recognise it & not the Host, unless you uncheck the box i mentioned up in post #19.
