E220 Vista Updates

Have you restarted your computer since updating the firmware?

You cannot start the MTN dashboard software after the Huawei (or Vodafone) Mobile Connect software has run. You'll need to remove and re-insert your data card and then run the MTN dashboard software. If the Huawei Mobile Connect program pops up when you insert the card then you haven't installed the MTN dashboard update correctly. You can also try disabling autorun (which is probably a good thing for security anyway) to prevent the Huawei software from automatically running.
 
I did the firmware and dash upgrades for vista, but can't seem to use the MTN dashboard for my vodafone modem, even when creating "vodacom" profile etc. So I uninstalled MTN dashboard on XP PC and reinstalled Mobile Connect (the generic Huawei one).

Now, even with updated firmware, when I plug the modem into Vista it requires drivers to be installed, but does not let me select the drivers for vista found in the link on this forum.

When I go into device manager the modem is not listed under 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' but under 'Other Devices'. So therefore I cannot use the method shown on the youtube video to make vista recognise the modem either.

Anyone else had this problem?

By re-installing the generic Huawei Mobile Connect software you have removed the Vista compatible drivers that were installed on the card by the MTN dashboard upgrade. My advice is to re-install the MTN dashboard upgrade on your XP PC and then try setting up the card on the Vista PC.
 
thanks.. Is there no way that I can connect using Mobile Connect or VMC (as opposed to the MTN software, which doesn;t seem to work)?

As far as I know, a version of the generic Huawei Mobile with Vista compatible drivers hasn't been released yet.

You can try downloading the drivers only from the link in the third post in this thread. You should be able to force Vista to use the new drivers, you'll need to unzip them first and then point Vista to them went it asks for a location. In the Device Manager you can try upgrading the drivers, and if that doesn't work try removing the devices and get Vista to scan for new hardware.
 
OK, so now Ive managed to get Vista to recognise the modem by pointing to System 32 when installing drivers, and this time MTN Fastlink software recognises it too. But when I try to connect, it opens the port and dials but when it gets to the authentication stage at the end it fails. The error message is simply "Failed to connect". It is the same if I try dial up manually in my connections list.

Try this below.

Go to control panel and off your user account control...reboot and try again.
 
So I got the modem yesterday.

The Vodacom software is so ****ing useless as they don't have the Vista drivers on the CDROM image of the dashboard itself.

A very bright idea to update the firmware so that I could see the CDROM drive under Vista but your dashboard don't work for ****.

I had to download the MTN Fastlink dashboard image to actually get it installed under Vista (serial and modem drivers) and then use VMC ver 9 to connect to the Internet.

Well it only took me an hour.

How about posting less on this forum and actually doing something usefull like installing this **** yourself for change Vodacom3g and then fixing your download site with the proper dashboard upgrade for Vista like MTN.
 
Dude, I think you are over reacting. It took you an hour? I have been struggling to connect my Vista PC since Feb... So an hour is nothing. ;)

I had the E620 - Didnt work... BOUGHT the E220 - Didnt work... And I have watched months go by, waiting for the promised 64-bit Vista Drivers. Huawei said in March, then April, now May... And every month it gets delayed again. So be thankful that you got yours up and running! :D

But trust me, if there is one thing I do understand, its your frustration! :mad: :sick:

This is now starting to frustrate me beyond belief.

For some reason, my modem works intermittently on Vista. After all i've tried to solve the problem, I still get the error 619 message message most of the time when I attempt to connect through f@stlink. I have tried changing 3g only to 3g preferred; uninstalling then reinstalling the modem drivers manually with downloaded vista drivers; following steps to install on youtube video; turning off user account; dialing up manually through windows 'connect to'... It is unbelievable how much of my time I have wasted on this problem. Why haven't huawei developed generic drivers for vista? What kind of a company are they? And why havent Vodacom done anything about it? They havent even offered a guide for vista on their web site!
 
HAs anyone got a step by step guide to loading the E220 on vista? I think it that is posted then it will help alot of people, myself included?

The vodacom e220 installs witout a hitch , but da MTN one,, need a bottle of sumthing to go with that install cos it dont wanna work so nice

SIM error

Hello

i have E220 USB , it was working fine with XP, when o moved to Vista i made the firmware andsoftware upgrade, windows vista can run the E220 USB but the application shows a message that SIM card error , that SIM card works fine and i trying with other SIM , but it still get the same error even with XP

can you help please ?!!
 
Just posting for the benefit of those who are not with vodafone, but are using Vista 64-bit and the Huawei modem with another network.

If you install the latest release of the Vodafone dashboard (64-bit) which has 64-bit support : http://www.mobileconnected.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/Setup-9.1.2.5766.zip (or just pull out the Vista drivers and drop into System32 folder), then uninstall your existing GUI (if installed) i.e. 3 Ireland, restart Vista, then re-install the modem. When Vista says it cannot find the drivers for the modem, point it to the System32 folder……..and the modem should complete it’s installation and you should be good to go.

Isn't it the best feeling, to finally be able to use the damn modem! I think I near wet myself when I got it going, considering I'd had the modem in my possession for about 3 months beforehand!

Hi,

If somebody can shed a light on my situation it will be greatly appreciated.

I have a network-locked Huawei E220 modem, which means I cannot use SIM card other than the one supplied by the network provider. If another card is inserted, the dashboard says "SIM/USIM card does not exist or unavailable".

Now I have searched this forum high and low, and have done following things:
1. Upgrade my firmware to Vista version 11.110.05.00.67 (I use XP but read that this firmware works fine with XP)
2. Upgrade my dashboard with Huawei's latest version (UTPS11.002.03.04.03) with Mobile Partner application.

After all is done, I tried using my provided sim card and it works fine as usual. But when I inserted different card (this card has been tested to be 3G ready and works in another environment), I still get the invalid card message.

Is my modem hardware-locked ?

Please help as I am really desperate right now.
