E220 Vista Updates

Vista 64 bit problems with Huawei

Dear PunchI, Jwilkens or anybody else.

I have done as described, downloaded the latest software to my E220 following the doc (from MNTDude I think). Vista could see my device after that. However, I am still battling to get the  thing working. I have also tried the Vodafone UK program. I even dropped the drivers in the C:\Windows\System32\ and ..\drivers directory. (2 files *.SYS from Vodafone and the G:\Driver\WinVista\ew*.* files from the Huawei device. However, I can't get it to work. It just hangs up my machine, with a blue screen. Could you outline the required files perhaps - I did point Device MAnager to pick up the drivers in the c:\windows\system32 dir, but the message returned says no driverscould be found. In the log file of the MTN F@astlink dir, I saw a message stating the drivers couldn't be registered, not sure if it is significant.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated please, as this problem is driving me up the walls...

Thnx

PO

Tnx, I got it working at last - using the Vodafone drivers, perhaps from the wrong dir under DISK1 the other times. Something else, on my XP machine, MTN signal bar shows better signal when using the old GUI instead of the new GUI.

E220 - Log files

I am seeing high I/O activity when using my E220. The resource monitor shows 3 log files are being updated, Callbalktrace.log, Functrace.log and Throwbacktrace. This I/O is definitely slowing down the machine and browsing. I have looked everywhere on the Fastlink GUI, but can't find a place to switch it off, or to decrease the level.

Anybody out there experiencing the same?

Thank you

PO

You can get it from MTN here.
The download labelled 'F@stLink E220 Data Card Vista Driver' is actually the firmware update and dashboard upgrade.

Do you know where to get the update for firmware 11.110.07.03.00 ?

Huawei haven't been making firmware updates available on their website so you'll have to wait until your network operator makes it available.
Where did you hear about this version and who is your network operator?

I had mine upgraded to this when I sent it for repair/observation. When it came back, they already upgraded it to what I posted. Its fast to detect, easy to switch between gprs and hsdpa. Not sure if its due to the mobile manager.

Im from the Philippines, I get my information here as this is the most complete resource for Huawei related issues and latest info.

I hardly have any MTN data coverage at my house so I am using a vodacom pay as you go sim and at work I use my MTN sim. I works perfectly. Now my new laptop has Vista Ultimate on it, if I do the MTN firmware and software update, will it still work with the vodacom sim?

Hey, I did the vista update and it works fine. So I plugged the E220 into my XP laptop this morning and it show "connected at 7.2mbps". Does this mean my modem supports 7.2 instead of 3.6? I thought the hardware is limiting us to 3.6 (when MTN has done the upgrades to the tower?)

Interesting, it didn't do that when I tried it, maybe they've silently included a new version. What firmware version do you have now?

I've read that the E220 is capable of 7.2Mbps after a firmware upgrade.

I wonder if MTN are planning to jump straight to 7.2Mbps.

added: So they have!:D
The 'F@stLink E220 Data Card Vista Driver' available here also upgrades the E220's firmware to version 11.117.03.00.67.

Hi guys, I know this post is kinda old, but got my E220 yesterday. Trying to install it on my Windows Vista 32bit notebook without any luck. I've downloaded the drivers from MTN and must have re-installed about 5 times by now.
I tested it on my wife's XP notebook, and it installed first time and worked without even having to reboot.

I manage to get the whole thing up and running, then when trying to connect, the screen that pops up makes it to the message that says 'connectDevice' and thats as far as it gets. After quite some time it fails and tells me the remote server is not responding in a timely fashion. The connection from my area is fine as on the XP notebook I get HSDPA.
I've also tried uninstalling the USB Mass Storage device as suggested somewhere.

Any more suggestions?

i've seen it too... alll the new e220's being released since the sortage of datacards are being relesed, vista ready and 7.2 ready... great stuff...

Is there a firmware upgrade to allow the E220 to access HSUPA network?
No, the E220 isn't capable of HSUPA, however there is an upgrade to enable 7.2Mbps HSDPA download speeds.
The 7.2Mbps upgrade used to be found on MTN's website here, but has been MIA since June.
I now see the whole page is missing.

Anyone know where I can get the E220 MTN Dashboard and drivers for XP? I've had no luck with MTNs software page.

Nevermind - found them :o
