V3G,

Any idea where I can get E272 modems in Gauteng?? Seems to be sold out all over?

thanks

Check your local Vodashop's? Or any other Cellular Dealer? If they dont have stock have them order one for you. Its possible that its on a backorder.

They told me its on back order yes. But nobody even suggested ordering one for me!

Usually the backordered ones are for customers who's been waiting for weeks, so when stock arrives those who have been waiting get it first. If they have to order one for you, you'd probable be waiting even longer!

But ja, go back and ask them to order one for you and how long it would take approximately.

I asked for one in exchange for points from our local VodaCare - they said they did'nt have but would order in - was going to take 2-3 days.
They called back 5 mins later after sourcing one at a local VodaShop.

This was a month ago,so maybe try VodaCare
with 1000 points the modem was only R1000 odd

Apparently theres a delay with the Manufacturer. So i doubt Vodacom has stock of it at all. Or the stock that they have is already for customers who has ordered it.

Why not go for the Vodafone Novatel MC950D HSUPA 3G USB Modem instead. It's looks like a USB stick, with max DL speed of 7.2Mbps and UL speed of 2.1Mbps.
Price is not bad at all (R1799.00). And don't go buy this at Vodashop. Went to check yesterday and they charge R2414 for the exact same thing.

I'm getting my one on Monday, so I will post some feedback some time next week.

Cheers

Thanks for the heads up!!

I have just convinced another unhappy Hellkom customer to switch to VC 3G and this info will help him a lot!

Hi UtianG - how do you connect the Novatel MC950D USB modem to an external antenna?

Why not buy it on eBay? Mine cost well under R1k, unlocked, delivered within 3 days. The advantage of buying a modem is NO CONTRACT, NO BILLING ANOMALIES and NO SHOCKS

Hi nuyork

Unfortunately im not aware of an external antenna for MC950D, but i will have a look and let u know if i find something ...

You may need one. It doesn't pick up a great signal. It does come with a longer cable (double connector), and an attachment to hang it on something, but appears to quite directional.

got mine on tuesday, been awesome compared to my e220
