E367 making my audio and mouse skip, and system BSOD!!!

Well I got the E367 modem, and the first time I plugged it into my computer and started using it, the audio would frequently skip, and the mouse would jerk, and it's giving me a big headache! I cannot listen to music this way...

It seems to jerk the most when I am surfing in Firefox. When it does, I can see big spikes under my CPU usage, for all cores.

But what happened next, shocked me stone cold :erm: My PC gave the Blue Screen of DEATH!!! (BSOD)
Message was BAD_POOL_HEADER

So I turned it on again, and when I shut it down that night, I got another BSOD! Whilst shutting down... This time it said DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

I've had my desktop for over a year now, and it has only BSOD'd once before I plugged this BSOD monster in... What is going on 8ta?

My setup:
Specs (see sig)
OS: win7 x64
Latest Mobo Drivers
Latest Firefox, v12
E367 software: 8ta connect 16.002.10.04.372
 
Audio and mouse still skipping

Well my PC is really messed up, I would really appreciate any help... :mad::(:cry:

At the moment, it's not BSOD'ing, but the audio and mouse are frequently skipping, whenever some IO is performed I think.

Here are some examples of when the audio skips:
-When I load a single website, like facebook or this site.
-I start loading a website, and before it's completely loaded, I click a link.
-Once when I opened windows explorer, and clicked computer ( I have 1 SSD, 5 hdd's, and 1 dvd writer connected )
-When I restarted just now, and it was playing the startup sound, and showing the login screen, the audio skipped.
-I ran the java installation file, then switched to my remote desktop window, and it skipped badly.

It seems to skip alot more when using firefox, however I don't recall it skipping once when using Opera, why would that be...?
It skipped several times when I was playing MW3 online last night.

When the audio skips, I often see 100% CPU spikes across all 8 cores.

What I have done so far:

Re-installed:
USB drivers
Network drivers (Uninstalled all previous first: hamachi, virtualbox, loopback)
Audio drivers
Firefox

Installed:
win7 SP1
Java JRE & JDK 7u4

Uninstalled:
Avast (latest version)

I have ran check disk on all my disks, including SSD.
It found some problems on the one hdd that had my pagefile.
I tried the pagefile on another hdd, and also tried disabling it, but same story.

Remote desktop has also been acting very weird, like it sometimes hasn't been drawing things correctly.
The one time when I connected, most of the screen was black, but I could see the start button, and some flashing progress bars etc.
When I connected once, I couldn't enter my password because the "Remember my credentials" checkbox was checking and unchecking itself, at an interval of about 1 second.

Could the problem be a virus?
I did a scan whilst avast was still installed.

What else could I do?
 
Tried different modem drivers? Drivers problem, check interrupt sharing...
 
Check what?

I forgot to say in my previous post, I completely uninstalled all of 8ta's software, and all other dongle software. So I think the new 8ta connector triggered something off...
 
Great news, I have just found something! :)

I was just checking out the CPU activity with Process Monitor, and svchost was spiking the most...
So I looked at the svchost for that PID, and I see DNS Client... So I thought, lets check the firewall....

So I opened my firewall, and guess what! I find 10,813 duplicated inbound rules! :wtf: :twisted:

5407 called "DHCP-Port", for UDP port 67
5406 called "DHCP-Port-2", for UDP port 68

So I deleted all these rules, which took 8:30 minutes... :erm:

I think its possible the 8ta may have done this if it tried to setup Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)... Bastard software... :mad:

I reckon this many entries is a plenty good enough reason to explain why the network was erratic... Really hope this solves the problem! :(

Not great news. These entries will come back, unless you find the source. Besides, network firewall configuration should not hog 8-cores CPU at 100% which results interrupting sound. Drivers could.

AFAIK, 8ta software don't need ICS. :)

Hi xera!

Has the information our fellow forum users helped you at all? We unfortunately do not have a machine with your exact specs, but we have no issues with the E367 modem giving us the BSOD on Windows 7 with the old and new 8ta Connect software.

Behind the scenes

HI all, it's not always you here the whole story, but here it is.

I thought back about every step I took, and I think I know what happened.

I have a USB wireless dongle plugged into my pc. Edimax EW-7811Un

The 8ta was connected, and I walked out of my room, and tried connecting to my pc via wifi using my phone. My pc was setup as a hotspot.

I never connected. When I came back into my room, my pc had BSOD'd. Later, I discovered over 10,000 rules in my firewall.

My conclusion is that when I tried to connect to my pc wifi hotspot from my phone, the WIFI Adapter tried to setup ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) for the 8ta, and failed miserably, adding all those rules, which resulted in the BSOD, and the audio and mouse skipping later.
So there is some conflicting software in there somewhere.

I'm just wondering why that didn't happen all the times I was using my SGS2 with USB tethering?

Actually it can.
Try it, and prove me wrong - add 10,000 rules as described above, and see if it doesn't make your pc any slower :p
 
Pardon me, I have 400MHz PII (or PIII) and even CPU hangs on drivers for few seconds, sound don't get interrupted at all. Secret is a small wire between sound card and speakers. No CPU interruption at all. :)
Now you see what your complicated R10K setup is worth.....

Now on the serious note. If you see BSOD, it is kernel mode fault, not user mode. Are you telling me that firewall is working in kernel mode? Maybe it does, but it is your Windows, not mine. Once again, driver stack gives BSOD, from your last post it looks like it has to do with wireless stack.
