can't wait for the interesting mybb articles on how it "is theoretically possible" for them to deliver cheaper, faster internet.

I wanna hear what the new excuses are why it won't happen.

Not surprised it was delayed...that thunderstorm we experienced in Durban on Saturday night would have even delayed the pigeon ;)

Well, it's all great that it has landed. I'm just curious as to why Mtunzini? That place is pretty much all nature reserves and is kind of in the middle of nowhere. Any ideas what it has to offer?

Sea floor & beach topography, shipping lanes etc. They don't just pull town names out of a hat, they do feasibility studies beforehand.
 
ok. I can undertsnad them doing studies and everything. Just what got me thinking was like I said, small and full of game reserves. I mean, Richards Bay is a little more North and it should surely have a better standing infrastructure? Any idea where the other cable landed on the East coast as well?

Retardsbay is not suitable, any idea how many ships drag anchor in that area as one example why it's not suitable? No idea what the ocean floor looks like.

Mtunzini is not far from Empangeni which is one of Telkoms DSSU sites and is a hub in the regional (kzn) transport network. Hopping onto another bunch of fiber optic rings from there to Durban & New Geramany which are regional core sites and part of the national transport network. These national fiber rings also provide a terrestial backup to melkbos should there be a failure somewhere in the system.

The location of the site is irrelevant in relation to Telkoms network hierarchy seeing their network is so vast and they can reach their network without much effort from just about anywhere.

If you understood how their whole network works or is laid out it might be easier to understand.

Why do you think Seacom picked the same location besides saving money on feasibility and environmental impact studies as well as saving time getting permission?

Mtunzini does not have to be a city in order for it to work. It could be located in the middle of the sugar cane fields if the location was suitable and it would still work out fine.

I just hope that August rolls around quickly, and hopefully there won't be any other delays in allowing traffic on the cable like Seacon.

Probably not seeing the connecting infrastructure is mostly in place already.
