Easy Equities good or bad?

I moved my TFSA also lately.

My advice to buying is super easy. Before you buy, google that same share via bloomberg (and look what they are saying is the cost).

If it is = (then you are in the green)
Solid advice thanks! New to this whole thing. What a time to be getting serious about investing (start of the year )

That's the thing. Everywhere the quote was R47. EasyEquities was still charging R60. Then they reduced it to R47, I bought and they still charged R60.

No, either their platform is a shiny turd or this is how they're making money.

Remember also the flowing, I am also looking how PSG brokers work directly. They have a "sell for" and "buy at" leg

If guys are selling at price X at time Y, and after 15 min it changes, it is out of their hands (it is all about "when the transaction is executed").

So far, I see that a few cents here and there is ok (but when it comes to rands, and you spend alot (look careful what is the going price online)

One thing I dont get, the thriving part (it looks like a rabbit hole, more complex than ebucks L O L ).

Yea it took me a few months also (and I have to say 5 support tickets) before I totally understood it.

1. When u register u enter into thriving for the first month for free.
2. Month two starts u have to have purple group shares and completed the monthly challenge then u keep thriving.
3. If u miss out on that (or any month after that in terms of the challenge) ur pretty much fooked until a month comes along with an extra tough challenge that usually includes a bonus of getting back on the thrive program. No other way to get back in once u lapse

Correct. I must say, I had a mega fight with EE (and gave in eventually)

Feb's rule was, move money into a TFSA or RA (and thrive). So I moved my TFSA from another provider

They dont see a transfer as a payment (lol). I gave up after the second week of saying, isnt a transfer a type of payment ? Their answer is no.

Wow. I did the same but also had debit orders going off, so I didn't notice that. Crazy. I'm still waiting for the damn special mission to come past. Will maar pay brokerage until then I guess

I lost my thrive status because the last requirement was to top up my RA or TFSA. TFSA was already full, and I don't have an RA with them. RIP.

That's terrible. What were you buying? STXWDM? I always make sure what I bought is in line with the market, so far no issues

Have you scolded Charles on Twitter?

Used to be able to get the price by doing a transaction in the demo account. Not sure if it's still accurate.

ASHGEQ

But I got a response from them

"It seems this trade was triggered when market makers had pulled their prices from the market. It is not a price we made up on EE as shown on the Bloomberg screengrab below.

The level is unreasonable so the trade will be reversed."

I think they should be proactive about this. Surely they should have a mechanism that checks trade prices Vs market prices. What about the average person who wouldn't know any better, which is actually their target market

Fully agreed. If I had not read Hamster's post, I wouldn't know this kind of thing is possible...

Can someone provide some tips on what else people should be checking wrt prices and costs?

When you buy check the buying at price and then checks the trading price on the confirmation email. That's how I spotted it.

Back in the day we had issues where they charged VAT (or some tax...don't think it was VAT) on ETFs where they weren't supposed to.

They fixed a lot of issues but if I own a dividend/REIT paying instrument I check the SENS distribution announcement and make sure the correct amount is deposited.

Also double check that corporate actions are executed correctly.

Same issue I encountered.

Purchased NASDAQ 100 on my TFSA on Friday after market has closed. Price was around R75. Spread was a few cents.

Today received an email that transaction went through. ETF was purchased at R82.50! At no point, was it selling for even remotely close to R82.50.

To make matters worse, I am new to EE, and should start with the Thrive programme? However, I was charged Broker fees.

Check that the nasdaq 100 is actually a thrive discounted stock. It's only applicable to some. To my best knowledge if u put in an order during a market is closed its most likely gonna fill at some weird other price when the market opens again, as it keeps moving while it's closed, just not tradeable

Market prices after a weekend are usually pretty wild at opening time.

Best to live trade when you can, or simply suck up these little slides in the price.

Yeah it has one of those purple firework icons. So I assumed it forms part of thrive. To date they cannot provide me with a valid reason as to why it was purchased at a inflated price

Thanks. Still awaiting EE's response on how that arrived as said price. This stock has high volume trading and a relatively low spread
