Easy Equities good or bad?

Gt247 has been around for a long time.

You have registered but never used EE then your opinion regarding their validity and operation is useless.

I use them, I have actual experience using them. I can actually compare them to other brokers....

Hence why I said they are the bomb no need to be over scared.
I'm not saying the platform doesn't work fine, it could be the best in the world. I'm doubting the whole business model just like other posters. What you are saying is not logical. It's a bit like saying the opinion of people who doubt the bona fides of Cambist or Sharemax is useless because they never used the schemes. And this is about EasyEquities not GT247. EE is less than a year old and hasn't stood the test of time.

I get your point, but GT247 has a solid track record.

Just a question on another topic... Anyone here own Discovery in their EE portfolio? Did you receive the rights offer last month? All Discovery share holders were offered rights on buying shares at a cheaper price. Qty was dependent on your holding.

I'm just curious if these types of share instructions and options also filters through to EE investor accounts.

But EasyEquities is GT247's product. Same people. They are authorised by the FSB.

The reason they are cheap is probably (and this is a theory) because they hold the shares under their name in a ring fenced company. This can allow them to buy popular shares in bulk which will minimize trading costs - which is the only part you are saving on. You are still paying STRATE etc.

FNB's Share Saver works the same way (and is even cheaper) if you buy on the first trading day. FNB effectively pool all the trade requests and execute them as one trade instead of thousands of small ones.

The only "dodgy" thing about EasyEquities is that the shares you bought is not held under your name on the JSE but rather under their BDA account. They keep track of your portfolio internally. But as mentioned it is a ring fenced company so you are protected if they go bankrupt etc.

EDIT: Not that it is a real concern:

Whole shares are listed in the First World Trader (Trading as GT247.COM) Nominees share register with beneficial ownership in the name of the underlying client.

Technically you are not, and should not be paying STRATE. Well, at least the last time I used EE it didn't list a cost item for STRATE.

Pretty sure I saw it. Haven't bought ion a while so it might have changed. But you have fees like VAT and IPL yes?

Yes, all the other charges, but not the actual STRATE fee. As I understand it, STRATE (http://www.strate.co.za/) is the actual company where settlement in your name occurs, or something like that. I don't always understand the mumbo jumbo.

And with the shares not actually in your name with EE they don't charge this cost.

From what I gather from Noseweek 167 was that there was a whistle blower saying that the front end system price and the back end didn't match amongst other things possibly creating profits upon purchase for GT247?

Plus a sample revealed manipulation on prices to make more profit.

The prices displayed are 15 minutes delayed yes, so what you see is not 100% what you get. Which is fine with me since I am a long term investor and the small difference in price won't make any real difference to me over a year.
I dont think their target market for this platform ever was for the day trader for whom the 15 minute delay is a big deal.

Only giving you 15 minute delayed data is part of the reason they are cheap. The JSE charges you per client using live data.

EDIT: Nevermind, I forgot about my post a while back:

I tested both a normal security and ETF. Bought enough to get whole shares + the fraction left over. In both cases no STRATE charged.

I have been a client of EE since they started. My first purchase was the second deal done got R500 easy money for it the first purchase was Savage from EE.

Now on a weekly basis I check this thread and I have even spoken to people about EE. So yes I was worried.

But what happened yesterday makes me feel alot better. I have been investing in Satrix Res Etf on a on going basis and yesterday I got a e mail from Satrix with the proposed chances on this ETF so my particulars as an investor is on their books and this makes me feel much better.
