Easy Equities good or bad?

Can anyone trade today on EE?

I have ACL, which only allows a buy trade today, but even that goes into the pending queue.
I am aware of the late JSE start today - above is after the start.

Anyone started investing in US shares on EE?

How long does it normally take before the funds you send to them appears in their account?

Also, how long do you have to wait when you sell US shares and want to cash out?

So my Mom tried to sell her shares yesterday, she had to make a phone call in order to sell at a certain price, they told her they will only sell it once the market closes and provided it's at the price that was request. It didn't sell because the share price dropped by then.

They also charge R50 per a phone call and the request lasts 1 day.

Which makes me think.... how safe is your money with them, especially large amounts over the long-term. It also seems not a lot of people here uses them since no one can give answers. Probably best to make use of better established services.

The only option is buy and sell now. No graphs or live trading. Hence the 15 minute delay. Ee is the starter pack of investing

Your money isn't with them if you buy shares.

They are very well established.

Okay, well, last night I decided to try them out as I want to put some money in some US shares for a decade or so.

At 19:00 I made a forex payment from FNB to them. This afternoon I received a mail from EE stating the money is in my account.

Just bought some shares, but I suppose the US stock exchange is not open as yet and will see how long this takes.

How long before Easy Equities update their US stock prices? The past 48 hours my prices stayed the same... no changes on EE. But, there are changes on the share prices on the stock exchange.

I don't see EE being any more risky than any of the other providers really. Not a problem imo. EE holds the underlying shares in a registered trust afaik.

It should be continuously updated, or at a minimum with a 15 min delay over live prices. So that seems quite suspect. Do keep timezones in mind though.

That said EE is a budget provider so it is to be expected that their order execution is somewhat inferior (this manifests itself as less execution paths & lower liquidity). Nothing against EE...that's just the way it works - you get what you pay for.

This isn't an issue if you're a buy & hold investor though.

Thanks HavocXphere

Not really interested in monitoring the prices in real time, as I intend to leave the shares there and not touching them for the next 20 years. But, since it is the first time I am using them, I do find this troublesome as the past 2 days the price has not been updated. Both on my real USD and demo USD accounts.

Can't comment on what's causing the issue or how their stuff behaves, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Maybe it'll let you buy more at the old price even ;) The execution thing I mentioned is only a dealbreaker if you semi-actively trade.

What US equities are available for buying on EE at the moment?

They do not have much, but they do have some of the more important companies I personally would invest in for the long term.

Some bigger names they have are 3M, Adobe, AMD, Google Alphabet, Amazon, American Airlines, American Express, AIG, Apple AT&T, Bank of America, Boeing, Broadcom, CAT, Chevron, Cisco, City Group, Coca-Cola, Colgate-Palmolive, Comcast, Costco, eBay, Facebook, Fedex, Ford, General Electric, GM, Hasbro, The Home Depot, Intel, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, KraftHeinz, Mastercard, MacDonalds, Microsoft, Netflix, Nike, NVidea, Paypal, Pepsico, Pfizer, Philip Morris, Snap Inc, Star Bucks, Symantec, Target, Tesla, Texas Instruments, Time Warner, T-Mobile, Twitter, 21st Century Fox, Unilever, UPS, Verizon, Viacom, Visa, Vodafone, Walmart, Walt Disney and Western Digital - just to mention a few.

Then there is also a bunch of ETFs to invest in offered by companies such as BlackRock and Vanguard.

I think, for now there is a decent package available to invest in.

It is clear they cater only for non-power users:

Suggestion for charts (as in a pie chart, not MACD) - no.
Suggestion for a better account overview - no.
Suggestion to not have the value of your portfolio be in big pink and white letters the lady across the street can see when you log in - no.

And the latest:
Suggestion to have more than one portfolio or at least group shares in a portfolio - no.

Not that anybody else does it but that would've been cool AF. Split my 15 shares into two portfolio groups: Growth and Income and see totals for each. Really not hard to do.

Anyway, we'll have to keep on using watchlists like Bloomberg's for this type of thing. *holds thumbs for good news regarding TFSA's this coming budget speech*

Easy Equities users... I heard that you can invest into Vanguard Funds through Easy Equities, but I can't seem to find this anywhere on their website... anyone know about this by any chance?

Never seen Vanguard on there, only Blackrock. Haven't logged onto the US Shares site (that's where you'll probably get it) in a while so things might've changed.

EDIT: Things did indeed change:

Russell 3000 Vanguard (VTHR)
Vanguard Ftse Emerging Market ETF (VWO)
Vanguard Mid-Cap ETF (VO)
Vanguard Reit ETF (VNQ)
Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO)
Vanguard S&P 500 Growth ETF (VOOG)
Vanguard Tot World Stk ETF (VT)
Vanguard Total Intl Bond ETF (BNDX)

Why are they not listed under TFSA?

Why are they not listed under TFSA?
Because you cannot buy them in South Africa? You have to move your money offshore to buy on those exchanges.

Why would you want to though? The best of those are already wrapped by Satrix and Sygnia (STXWDM, STXEMG etc). Not Vanguard but just as good except for cost maybe.
