Easy Equities good or bad?

But what if I want to invest in Amazon and the ETF trackers only give me 1% exposure and I'm too poor to go with true offshore investment?

all im saying is if *** hits the fan and things go pear shaped your money might be locked into SA and cant get it out... so make sure its true offshore option...
webtrader by std bank is a good option imo and can allow you to do what you want here...

Will be interesting to see if you can provide an alternate bank account to withdraw money and if there will be some sort of red tape.

If you open an Absa stock market account, then open the Global account, you can choose where you want to trade, eg. NYSE, then you are more than welcome to buy Amazon, Apple or any million of the ETF's on offer, it's all in USD of course and I think the flat trade price is $20, very easy and it's offshore.

What does the USA platform actually mean?

Does the money we put there leave the country? Can we have the money deposited in a US account once we sell?
Don't think you can withdraw to a U.S. account but from the looks of the practice account your money is converted to a U.S. balance to trade with.

Saw that. Now that can keep on subsidising the trading costs, right? Right?

I see the US platform has gone live. So many options! I scanned through the US t's and c's now I can't find it again.

Anyone know whether the fees, etc be the same as in the normal account? Heck, I am just gonna test it.

First issue I see is having to use swift to get your cash into their account. Depending on your bank, it'll cost R150-R200. Haven't seen anything about their US stocks in the cost profile yet

Well at least now we know this money is really off shore. I started with R30k and conversions and transfer fees worked out to +- R1000.

But now we need a good source of information on all the new ETFs available to us. Suggestions?

3.3% in fees, ouch :(

Edit,

Also, I think if and when I do move my cash out of SA, I will go for a core ETF tracking the S&P500 maybe 80%-90% and then sprinkle the rest over something interesting like biotechnology ETF.

But subscribed to the thread for more insight.

Questions,

1. How does EE handle tax reporting, if at all, to SARS with the US account.
2. When I want to transfer funds out of the EE US account, can I specify another international account other than the one I used to deposit funds?

Questions:

When buying on EE, you get the price you are buying at and the price you are selling at. However when you sell something, I do not see the price I am selling at... For example, I sold R100 worth of shares but only received R97.20.

How do I know what I am selling at when I sell?

That's the short-coming of the EE platform. Because you're dealing with 15 min delayed pricing, when you submit a sell order, the price that you see could be (and often is) different to what the current price is. So you could end up with more or less than what you were expecting. If you want live pricing, you'll have to go for a more expensive platform

You sure they didn't take their percentage off for the sale.

Strange that they seem to be able to accommodate on the buy side, but not on the sell side...

"3. You know our prices are 15 minutes delayed, right? That means we’ll be working off the percentage of your sale and not the price, as this might change within that period. Just a heads up. As you were."

Go on a site like sharedata. Check the last bit price(EE sells at this amount) for you share and to make sure there is volumes. (Especially on smaller caps)
Quickly do the calculations yourself. Sell amount ÷ number of shares = what you get for one share.
Refresh your source of live pricing to make sure everything is the same
Hit sell
The cost of a cheap platform.

Not sure about your question regarding the US account specifically. I haven't used that yet

Anyone have any thoughts about the Blackrock Greater Europe Investment Trust PLC (BRGE's) that EE is looking to add. I am considering but it is an actively managed fund.

Has anyone using EE had any experiences of unauthorised activity on their account?

I have had two instances now where they have sold my shares with no knowledge / instruction from me.
While the 1st I believe may have been an alert to let me know for some reason those shares HAVE to be sold, this latest one is worrying. I got the email saying Instruction Received - Sell of over R3000 of shares.
I searched my emails as it was a Deutsche stock and I doubt that anything has happened to DB and we haven't heard.
Nothing...

Whats worse is that last time it took EE 3 weeks to get back to me.
I mailed them on the 1st and have chased today - still no reply.
AND the money is neither in my account or anywhere actually... so missing.

Anyone else had similar?
