Hi Guys,

A friend of mine asked me if I could design ecommerce website for him. I have no idea how to do this :D What software would you guys recommend ? He needs the site to be hosted for him, which is easy to do, and he wants to be able to change everything online with his own username: add/remove products, add specials, ext…

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Freakboy, First look for some decent commerce systems. I have used OScommerce for numerous products. I find it to be pretty good. Many people on the forum though will promote zencart or others. Take a look at whats out there first! It'll be a pain to change later. Preferably Open source as you can change code how you see fit and its free :)

If you do go with OSC, there is a free template module, that allows you to easily create templates using tags in place of code. I haven't used it yet, but did plan on it :)

(Also get a good host :P)

Hi Freakboy,

There are quite a number of free/ open source shopping carts that can be installed in a hosting account and is a rather easy process. Almost all of them have a very simple web interface backend as well ;) I personally have used ZenCart quite a lot and it is fantastic in my opinion.

Why not e - mail sales of the web host that you have in mind and ask how much they would be willing to help, some web hosts unfortunately do not assist at all with these things.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info guys, really appreciate it. Will have a look at the mentioned packages and see what info I can get from my friend/host.

Definitely Zen Cart of osCommerce - Zen Cart has a very nice forum community!

Hetzner is my pick for a host - they are great, and especially great when there's a problem - and that's what counts.
