EEK Telkom !!

It is a scam - it will be a cheque deposit, and the cheque will bounce after money has been given to the fraudsters.

Do not under any circumstances pay any money out.

Thats what I thought.

ds call the cops and see if they are interested in catching the bloke. perhaps also contact telkom and see if they are interested in doing something.

There is a Commercial Crimes unit within SAPS that might be more interested than the local cop shop, and there is the option of sending Telkodemonopolies' fraud department a bill for the bank fees resulting from the bounced cheque deposit - along with a covering letter giving all the details you have available...

DS, what was the fax number that you faxed to? - maybe it's possible to trace who that number is allocated to - please post the fax#...

well, if you're interested, here's the contact number for the SAPS Fraud Unit: 0860 10 12 48

086 658 8666  :p
One of those free fax 2 email numbers, untraceable then I guess.
I expected it would be a fax2email number, but there is still an email address linked to such a fax number, the question is how does one find out which fax2email provider issued out the number 086 658 8666, and then how does one get at the details associated with that fax number, e.g. email address? - most likely it will be a hotmail.com or other untraceable foreign email address, but if it isn't then SAPS can do something about it...

The police themselves would probably need to enquire or get a court order.

Yep, sorry, meant to post that it is SAPS' job to do the investigation bit and squeeze the info out of the fax2email provider and ISP, somehow I forgot to post that :).
