El-Cheapo UPS Battery replacement: Can I use Lithium (LiPo)?

See the same on my lifep04;

As my setup isn't ideal currently2 parralel batteries

And the cable to each isn't exact same length

And naturally since one dies some 4 hour sessions due to bad cell
Means the other has to carry load

Causing them to be out of balance after load shedding

So if i charge at 30a

For a while the one will charge at 20a and the other at 10a

Until they are in sync again

Break it up

Lead acid batteries when charged quick can vent

Nogal sus (not all will get it side joke)

When charged slow more unlikely

So they recommend ventilated area

I don't know how sealed batteries and gel behave

ie why i say someone with more knowledge can chime in

This isn't a thing on lithium

If they vent, there is a real problem you get the hell out or get it the hell out of your house
The side joke if you have kids
Ask them if you can play

among us

with them
Keep telling them they look sus

And ask them if they vented

Terms from the game

Yea otherwise you wear it out sooner if done regularly

and reduce performance if only done once can remedy by rewriting your data to the drive again
Naturally if you have a. Samsung
Pm851 you don't have to do that the software will rewrite the data later by itself ,with the workaround on this specific device to solve it's crap

agree 100%
i have never seen a lead acid explode or anything
worse case scenario it swells up the casing and stops working
weird egg smell and thats it

lithium on the other hand, i am scared Yes

Check this out on takealot: Vizia 1200VA Line Interactive Lithium UPS | UPS-U1200

Anyone tried this?

seems too good to be true, keen to see the first reviews ..?

presume the battery can be replaced if ever needed

''Large Battery Capacity: Large battery capacity of 144Wh can provide
3-4 hours of backup power for the laptop''.

Just trying to work this out as a 144Wh Lithium should power a laptop for way more than just 3 to 4 hours on its own ? A laptop has its own power anyway for several hours so why mention a laptop.. I'm evidently missing something as not sure what they mean by 'interactive' as opposed to using the UPS to power something else ?

because saying it can run 720W for 12 minutes doesn't sound as cool.

I wonder how long it takes to recharge.

Because it sounds 100 times better than saying it will keep your PC etc running for 10 minutes (144Wh*90% efficiency knock/720W draw*60minutes). Your laptop can draw as low as ~45W, if not lower, aka 2.88 hours. It would be utterly misleading for them to include the built-in battery runtime of the laptop.

This is an excellent product, and I was expecting lithium UPS systems to make their arrival quite a bit earlier. My only gripe with these systems are the inefficiencies (I used 90%, but it is probably lower) as you are taking 12V to 220V and then back to 12-19V. But that is fine for this use case - a small and cheap UPS that will not require new batteries in 3 months like a conventional UPS.

May be worthwhile for a network cabinet using around 300w, should last half an hr. Inverter system in place, but just for those small dips or switches to grid or electrician work etc.

Yes, but you just have to double check the dimensions to see if it can fit.

Hi Could we get a qualified electrician to answer this please. I have read somewhere else on the forum that you can’t replace the lead acid or AGM deep cycle battery in a mecer trolley inverter with a drop in LIFePo4 battery with it’s own BMS. So I think the correct question is can you replace the deepcycle gel battery in a Mecer inverter trolley with a lifepo4? I think Mecer themselves will say “no you can’t” thx

Can you post that reference?

This inverter has no means to regulate the cell protection

ie individual cell low/high cut off on charge/discharge

So the only way you can fit a lifep04 is with its own bms

Trying to fit lifep04 cells/battery without bms is dangerous

So i think there may be misunderstandings in the mix

The problems with a lifep04 you can experience

Is the low voltage cut-off
ie if it discharges to the 10v cut-off of bms

Cause then you need to jump start the bms to reconnect the cells

Other than that there is no reason not to replace with lifep04

Are you a qualified electrician?
