Elden Ring

Those gargoyle things found in the catacombs? Indeed...to quote something I saw on reddit: "They can go suck a sandpaper d*ck"
Just kill them before they kill you. lol.

Jokes aside, the ones hidden normally gets me. I need to brush up on my magic-kung-fu.

Nah I have no problem with them in the catacombs...but let me just say there's a certain event where 4 (or 5?) of them make an an appearance all at once and it makes the whole thing 10 times worse...little sh*ts!

I'm going for a Gandalf type build - primarily magic but can use a sword too.

Was very tempted to go with the Samurai - love ranged combat (bow) and the two handed skill is very cool.

My pet hate is being one-shotted though - it just feels wrong.

You want me to try something that is even more frustrating? No thanks - I'll keep grinding at this - once I figure out how not to get one shotted by some random grey imp that makes me bleed out I'm sure I'll be fine.

I do hate that you can find dungeons that you're way too underpowered for.

Anyone have tips to where to find good beginner gear for a magic user?

Also, why do all the characters look so fugly? (looks fondly at Diablo 3 female avatars)

Better to be frustrated for R100 vs R1000 :D

After a weekend of playing I just love the game so much.

They fixed the network problem on XBox so could partake in some jolly co-operation today. Was good fun.

It's pretty much just more Dark Souls. Much more. The game is so big.

There's so much to discover around every corner. I'm trying to find everything but I'm sure I'm missing things. Will have to go look and see what people discovered that I may have missed.

Rolled a new character to start with the Golden Seed giving me an extra charge on the Health/Mana Flask.

Now that I understand the game mechanics a bit better it's a lot smoother an experience.

Is there any value in breaking barrels, etc?

But the coop is pretty much the same as ds3/bb? Wish these games had normal coop with invasion off option.

I love the game!

Took down
the dragon
singlehandedly last night. The feeling of accomplishment afterwards is why I play these kind of games.
managed to take it down, opened a chest near there and got trapped in a different part of the map, scary AF!

still can't get the Tree Sentinel dude to die FML.

Seems like none of the 10/10 reviewers played the PC version. I'm watching streamers playing the PC version get random stutters lasting 1+ seconds vs certain enemies (eg. Cat mini-boss). Completely unplayable on PC. That is along with the random micro-stuttering in the open world.

eg. Watch these few minutes:

Not much on AMD, seems to be more Nvidia. My son is playing it on PC - no stutter

It's not a PC spec issue, no matter if you have a 10k or 100k PC it will still happen, the stutter will just be less severe on the faster PC but it's still there.

Yeah it's pretty much the same. Just help other people out and when the boss dies you go back to your world.

Haha I also haven't gotten the Tree Sentinel dead yet. I wonder how many new to soulslikes get to him and keep trying to take him down.

The Tree Sentinel made me into a pancake a few times with that shield slam, damn

The interactive map on the wiki is nice for seeing things you've missed in areas.

PS. how's the game running on XSX?

Thanks, I'll go have a look at the wiki.

The game's running fine. The only problem was the network issue they had initially where everyone wasn't on the same game calibration version or something like that. Luckily it was fixed Sunday morning.

I love this aspect in games.

I dislike level gating, and absolutely hate enemy scaling. I want to wander too deep into unknown lands, and then find out the hard way that this is not where I was supposed to be.
Even better if you die and drop stuff, and need to do a corpse run.

What I do like about the Soulsbourne games, is that you can see when an enemy is probably strong.
No stupid level indicators or health counters. You get into an area, and see that knight standing there... his armour just looks different, so you know you should be careful. Maybe he has glowing red eyes. Anyway, you walk closer, circle him a bit, trying to see an opening.
Maybe you block a shot and see that his fight is definitely not worth it, and run if you still live.
Or you dodge attacks, and then when you land one, and don't see much of a difference to his health bar, you also know to GTFO.

Compared to lesser games, where you get into a new area, you hover your mouse/reticle over an enemy and see they are lvl 20, and you are 19. All good, you run in with gay abandon.
Or they are lvl 50, so you turn around and leave. No excitement, no nothing. Meh.

doing much better now that I better understand the way the game works.
