Elden Ring

+5 years from now when we all speak russian?

We should all catch up on our russian. In case they win the war

Not an unfair description. :D

But in all seriousness the Souls games are hard, but never feel unfair. When you die (often) you aren't left feeling that the game cheated you (artificial difficulty), but rather than your thinking or reactions lapsed.

Hey, you enjoy it. And any other self-mutilation you employ :)

I personally just could not handle the frustrating grind of Demon Souls (I think it was). I don't mind grind i.e Destiny 2, but add huge dollops of wanting to hurl the controller at the screen and it was just too much for me.

To note. Most if any here and there stutter went away when I'm using half refresh rate forcing it to 75hz for Elden. Hopefully that kak gets sorted.

Never played a soul's game before, enjoying it so far - put 6 hours in yesterday. Have to say that watching some guides on what to do in the beginning dramatically improved the learning curve of what the different things mean and work.

I do have the stuttering issue on a decent machine ryzen 3600 with an rtx 3070, non of the claimed fixes seem to remove it completely. Hopefully, this fixed is soon, as it's most apparent in the open-world boss fights which just makes it harder.

Also, recommend using a controller, game is just designed for it.

What class did you start with?

I enjoyed the game yesterday. Took down quite a few bosses. Died many times.

Can't connect online at all which is sucky. I see it's on the list of stuff that FromSoftware is looking at. So I'm missing half of the experience.

I'm playing as a Prophet. Can really do with a proper offensive incantation because the one you start with is pretty sucky. Also, I've cleared a couple of mini dungeons now and still haven't found any new incantations. Keep finding weapons that I can't use. Hopefully I'll find something soon!

"One of the worst PC ports I've seen."

It sounds like a -1 day patch really screwed performance

Both his and Skill Up's original reviews of it mentioned performance and it sounded pretty good.

Edit: I know it's popular to blame DRM or anti cheat, but it is completely plausible that the anti-cheat or DRM was only introduced towards the end of the review cycle.

I've always done a strength / tank build with every other souls game. This time I've started with the prisoner class, and boy it's an adjustment.

Not sure if I should go on or restart and fall back on my tried and trusted tank build.

Using ranged magic just feels "wrong" to me as I'm not in the action. Maybe I'll get used to it.

Logged about 12 hours ingame so far as a samurai focusing mostly on dex.

Killed off a number of smaller bosses and did a few dungeon runs. Finally found a viable replacement for my upgraded starting weapon and then took out the first real boss. Having a selection of decent Spirit Ashes makes life much easier with bosses as they can draw aggro...unfortunately I had missed the key item needed to use them and only backtracked recently to get it.

The map is already massive, but gets even bigger when you find the underground river section

The open world concept is blended nicely with the sections in caves that feel more like the traditional linear parts of Souls games.

Yea same, played around 2 hours with Astrologer as I was keen to start off with a dex/magic build. But I just don't find it as fun...switched to wretch and trying to get a strength build going.
