Elections a watershed

As eye-opening as this is, it's unfortunately preaching to the converted.

Those of us with access to information become educated in politics. However the gross majority in their shacks vote for whoever gives them a food parcel at the voting booths.

Exactly.

Sorry man but that is total misinformation right there. Even the papers got it wrong, or tried to make it look this way, but the DA did not win any significant votes in Khayelitsha. They won a ward that was half in Mitchell's Plain, half in Khayelitsha and they won almost exclusively through the coloured vote from the Plain. It was the same story as in a Gugulethu/Heideveld ward, all the papers came out saying the DA "won in Gugulethu" where they only got 79 votes out of 2200 in Gugs and won the ward from the voters in Heideveld (http://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/gugulethu-voters-stick-with-anc-1.485460). The DA also has no Khayelitsha wards except the one that sits half in Mitchells Plain, Khayelitsha is still overwhelmingly ANC voting. Strange that you say you're in your local DA but you actually believe they control Khayelitsha or get significant votes from (black) shack dwellers? I guess you admit your plan is to "discourage your opposition through misinformation" so at least you're honest.

They tried to make it look that way. The media is in bed with the DA.

Why do the DA have such a majority of white leadership? They also need to play the race card. If their leadership is more in line with the demographics of our country, then maybe the votes will reflect that.

People are given jobs based on race so why not politicians elected based on race

With DA "leadership" I think your referring more to its candidates. Just remember you only see the ward candidates that win their wards and not the ones that don't. The DA does not use race when electing its ward members, it focuses on DA members that have contributed towards the DA, promoted the DA in that ward and stand by the DAs policy that all South Africans are inclusive and not exclusive with regards to governing.

So the fact that you see mostly white DA candidates in parliament and council meetings is because the white wards mostly vote DA.

So the only time you will see a white councillor in a black ward is if that councillor actually was an active member in that black community and the only time you will see a black councillor in a white ward is if he/she was active in that ward. I'm a member of out local DA ward and a member of our wards electoral college. We voted solely on merits when electing our preferred ward candidate.

Unfortunately the DA have still made very little progress in the black townships. I think it'll only improve, but they really only won the Western Cape and any black areas through the coloured vote.

Actually I see it's worse than I thought, when the DA "won" that "Khayelitsha" ward, they got a grand 49 votes out of 2100 in the Khayelitsha polling stations, with the ANC taking virtually every other vote. From the IEC site. Looks like the misinformation campaign backfired on you, you ended up believing it yourself! :)

So your saying that the papers got it wrong so my info is wrong???

There are 5 wards that fall under the "Khayeltisha" subcouncil and if you've been to Khaya you will know its big and obviously not one ward. The DA won Ward 82 and the ANC Wards 95,96,98,99. You can argue the boundaries of the wards but the fact is that DA won a ward from an ANC stronghold regardless of its boundaries and which population group falls under that boundary.

The ANC is going to walk away, with most of the counts - We will never make it.

The DA won ward 99.. just go check on the IEC website if you want the details, but you'll see they go basically no votes from Khaya at all. They won purely from the coloured vote, that is the real fact. You said they won Khayelitsha and shack dwellers were voting for them, absolutely not true. Check the links/details in my previous post.. it's dead obvious.

Everyone knows the DA has the coloured vote now. Still not any significant black vote.

Race is all the ANC ever had aside from Mandela, and once he's gone that truly will be all they have left. And they will continue using it to drive a wedge between the people of SA. They don't care what disaster this could lead to, so long as they can keep their vice-like grip on the country, and more importantly, keep stuffing their own pockets.

The best post ever on this forum. I rate this as an epic quotation!
