WTF! I hope your kidding with those figures. Where did you hear that? Its going to be damn difficult to keep your power under that. Going to have to go gas!

I only half listened to the person who told me. She heard it on the radio - I remember the figure clearly as we went on to discuss what that would power, but I forget the station.
She is Afrikaans, if that helps narrow it down :D
 
Just sent my wife an email with a linky to this thread.

She won't be impressed hearing that we'll be capped for lectricity as well... :rolleyes:

We also use the heater sparingly in winter, and dress up warm.

Heh - we are very bundled up in winter, and hate using the heater.

Need proof? All my kids were conceived in the summer months....
 
It's a sign of the times...
Lack of planning on Eskom's part aside, there is the bigger global picture. It's bound to hit us sooner than later.

The question is - why to these politicians wait until it falls apart before they give us incentives to move towards more sustainable solutions? They want us to cut our demand by 20% - that can easily be done by simply using the sun to provide hot water.

Because, only once it falls apart, do they realise that they may now lose out on kickbacks.
After all, no new development = no new surveys and permits to stamp = no new envelopes under the table.
 
How do you measure your electricity usage, in order to not get capped/fined? Will they install free meters in every home?
 
why do they not implement a buy back program ... i.e if you have solar panels that are generating more than u use .... this can be sent back into the grid and u should receive compensation for this ... I think it is implemented in some 1st world countries .... this would be good as most ppl only really use their electricity at night ... so the excess generated during the day can be sent back into the grid, which should help alleviate some of the problems experience ...
also ... why do they not provide incentives for ppl to use solar powered water heaters ... I know they ran a trial with about 600 people a while back ... but nothing has happened since then.

Anybody know of any electronic measuring instruments that you can just hook up to your existing line and have it record your usage so you can view it on your PC?

AFAIK in the US of A and other countries they do it.

They won't look at it as it won't be generating a profit for them (they have to pay you).
 
Anyone see that farmer who is able to run his entire farm and have spare using methane produced with chicken manure? Wanted to sell it back to Eskom, but they don't want anyone else making money in the process afaik.
 
eskom should be licking that farmers feet ... for trying to help them out by giving them his excess electricity .... but no .... we can't have that I guess .. cause then they can't play god and load shed us to the dark ages
 
can we bring a class action suit against eskom for damages ..... so that we can use it to then pay their ridiculous fines :) .... but seriously though ... as money is the only thing that these guys understand ... we need to find a way to get them to implement some reasonable solutions ... rather than this load shedding non-sense ... for all the money that has been lost already ... we could have but at least one solar panel on every house to help with the electricity generation ..... but that would actually help the situation ... so eskom would not do that obviously ... so how do we force them to do the right thing?? anyone know some ppl high up the the guv that might be willing to fight this fight??
