Elementary OS vs Windows 8

It runs perfectly on all my machines except this one. If I can't use Freya then I will skip elementary all together and just use windows.

( The reason I want to use Freya is because I want to learn linux, but I am full of shait if it looks k@k then I am not interested and this is the first OS apart from OSX that actually caught my attention. )

( The previous version wont work either all my ubuntu based installs on this machine gets same issue )

The difference in looks between Luna and Freya are very minor.

Big difference is Luna is stable and works, while Freya is not.

If you want to learn then doing so on a known broken OS is like walking around with a loaded gun and your finger on the trigger.

Why do you have so many PC's and need all of them to run Linux? Switch some of them off or just leave them be.

Try turning hyper threading off in the BIOS (or whatever it's called on AMD) as the problem seems related to too many cores.

This is my main main workstation and if it can go linux then I will finally be able to learn, because I believe the only for me to learn it is to be forced to do my daily tasks on it and find workarounds etc forcing me to learn.

Oh I agree for sure, but then just make one of the working ones your main desktop.

I hate to say it but it sounds to me like you are looking for an excuse to go back and then say that you tried.

The biggest hurdle in my learning was always trying to be cutting edge and then struggling to fight problems that I didn't understand because I was one of the first people to have them.

Seriously try Luna.

Use Windows!

Seriously though, if you just want to learn then rather learn in a VM on winblows. Install a couple distributions and go crazy mucking around :D

I learnt using gentoo & linuxfromscratch, and I wish I had virtual machines back then!

Does luna use nouveau?

try this here:
sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
sudo chroot /mnt
sudo update-grub2
Where exactly will that mount it? I dont want to mess with my hardrives.

Or you could try to remove your graphic card from the box and see if you can install using the on-board gpu. Then just add the graphic card afterwards. Will eliminate the nvidia as a problem.

Discrete motherboard

I hate AMD

Fedora/Centos
Same issue

For this virtualbox error, if you have a supported CPU, enable AMD-V in the BIOS of your physical machine.

Then, also make sure AMD-V is ticked in your VMs setting in virtualbox (will be under System -> Acceleration).

If all else fails, use the 32bit installation rather.

Which AMD cpu are you running?

That problem was sorted, Hyper-V locked it

Unfortunately it appears luna is not available they only have Freya on the website, so fck this go windows

On luna it just hangs here.

I understand that other thread now! Windows 10 will be the death of Linux.

Windows just works end of story, so yea I'm over Linux happily a windows boy for life after this BS

Rofl...

You should still learn linux though, just do it in a VM. The linux skills I learnt years ago when mucking around have proved invaluable despite me being a microsoft dev.
