Elementary OS vs Windows 8

On luna it just hangs here.

I understand that other thread now! Windows 10 will be the death of Linux.

Windows just works end of story, so yea I'm over Linux happily a windows boy for life after this BS
You must either have some weird hardware or a dodgy VM config.

I downloaded elementaryos-freya-amd64.20150411.iso, dumped it onto a flash drive and tried it on a couple of systems here in the office without any problems - not my cup of tea though, Fedora/CentOS FTW :)

Rofl...

You should still learn linux though, just do it in a VM. The linux skills I learnt years ago when mucking around have proved invaluable despite me being a microsoft dev.

I fcking want to do it so bad, but it doesn't run and working in a 640x840 VM is just not for me.

All I want is eOS that's all.

( I ended up installing fedora, it took less than 9 minutes, not one hickup)

So that guy that says I am not cut out for linux, a big FU to you too, what you meant to say is that linux is not cut out for my PC

It runs in the VM, it's when I umstall it on the actual machine.

I found the problem thou it's the nouveau driver of Freya that causes the k@k

Have you tried Fedora XFCE yet?

I will try to keep this rant to the minimum, as it has been mentioned in the thread before, but I think this is the first linux distribution's site I visit that has such an "in your face" asking for money system. for this reason, I will not ever use it. You can very easily install the desktop environment on any other distribution.

You must be one of those software stealing pirates.

Not at all, I have been using linux for the last 10 years on my home computers, mostly red hat based, but also some debian based ones, and I have never been asked to make a payment if I didn't want to. I am not against giving these developers money, but it should be my own choice, and it has been, and I have contributed.

To type a 0 followed by a left click?

The only scene here is the one you and that other guy are making because godforbid you now have a small modal which requires a 0 and a left click to continue. Good lord what is this world coming to ??

I clicked on "Custom", typed a "0" and clicked on "Download Freya". That was incredibly difficult to figure out. Just because I had to click twice and type a "0" once, that's it! I'm boycotting the developers and refuse to have anything to do with Elementary OS. Really!?

Clicking "Download" on ubuntu.com to get hold of Ubuntu 15.04 also results in a screen asking for a donation. That can also be ignored but it seems as if a developer that asks for a donation to try to compensate them a little for their hard work in releasing and maintaining a top-class OS is asking too much.

I agree with you Necuno, what is this world coming to?

What do you use in place of Shotwell in Windows? I ask because having recently moved from OSX and iPhoto I found Windows extremely lacking in this department and actually used Shotwell as the closest thing.

Since I'm on Windows 8.1, I downloaded Adobe Photoshop Express on a whim after seeing it advertised in the Store and it does some very handy edits that I don't want to bother with doing in GIMP, simply because GIMP doesn't have a very nice flow for me. So things like cropping, adjusting colours, that basic stuff is all done with APE, while GIMP handles anything more complex like transparency. It has right-click context menu integration as well, so I don't have to launch APE first to do any edits, I just launch it for the photo that I select.

On Windows 10, in windowed mode floating on the desktop, it was pretty neat and very lightweight.

Does it do any management?

Because that's what i find lacking on Windows.
