Ellies Inverter Quality

As for the quality. If you run all of that, you may have some issues with this inverter. When I had a 140W LCD TV + File server 250W + AVReceiver + SUB + ADSL + HTPC and other stuff on it, the inverter would trip when the power went out, and I had to restart everything of the inverter again. Was really annoying. Was like having a generator :(

I then sold off the LCD TV and bought a LED TV which runs closer to 40-60W. Now the power can go out and everything on the inverter will keep on running without interruption. Running times for me is anything from 4-6 hours off the 2 batteries, where I only needed 2 hours for the load shedding times we had in Cape Town.

So the inverter works, I would just recommend you consider moving to a lower powered TV.

Yeah, i am aware of the noise, anything else? I am concerned about the efficiency since I have a 12v type which looks similar to the Ellies but it's some other brand, besides being noisy it consumes two 90 ah batteries at such an alarming rate that I can't understand, for the setup I describe above I get only 2 and half hours, compared to the 5 hours I get from my 24v APC ups.
 
I've paid R8000 for it back in the day.

Runs my PC, couple of lights, router, DSTV and Plasma without a hitch. Never needed to use it for longer than 2 1/2 hours.
 
I got mine before the price rocketed @R4500 at Ellies - thats about 4 years ago - no issues - havent had it run out of power yet longest I think was 4 hours with LED TV, DSTV, Modem router, CCTV cameras, Media Player and light

That is all I need it for, we haven't had power cuts or load shedding in a long time, but the ocassional downtime for maintenance or faults can be very inconvenient.

I've managed to use mine quite a few times in the last two months, apparently maintenance in City Powers eyes means 18 hours downtime on the day, and a further 4 days without power afterwards, so since June I've had to use it 14 times.
 
Did you ever get an answer on the buzzing noise, apparently this UPS should be silent when there power. I am having the same issue with my 1200W Ellies and manual only indicates that inverter should be reset to fix this, but does not explain how?

Is it buzzing continuously? mine does that for a while then stops when its on power, I assume its when it charges or the fans doing their job.
 
One of the batteries just exploded in my ellies inverter :(

We are very happy with our Ellies Inverters at our office. We have 5 of the 2000v versions. They run for like 9 hours during an outage. No hassles at all. Had them for more than two years now.

Bought this (with the batteries included) in 2015 I believe. So 3 years old.

Thing is, I should have known something was going to happen. I realized the inverter said something is wrong, but left it. Then when loadshedding hit today, it tried to power things, failed, tried again, and then really loud pop explosion. Only the 1 battery exploded, and the other shows it needs a recharge, even though I have been running these to charge non-stop. Will probably not try that one again, and get new batteries.

At least the case is metal an not plastic, so long no one got hurt

Anyone familiar with battery maintenance to avoid this?
 
Only way to really find out if an inverter is K4K or decent is to throw it on an oscilloscope and see if its a noisey pos or a well engineered device. Usually the more you pay, the better, but that's not always the case-

Is it normal for an inverter to have some feedback a.c. voltage on the mains in plug when in battey mode? I was busy sorting out my stuff with all the load shedding when I touched the terminals of the extension that feeds a.c. to the inverter and I felt some tingling, not enough to cause a shock but still enough to be felt, the cord was unplugged from the wall but plugged in at the back of the inverter with the inverter running on battery.

I got the meter out and measured, nothing between live and neutral but there is about 79 to 119V ac between the earth terminal and neutral, what is going on here?
 
Modified Sine Wave Inverters will produce a humming sound, sometimes loud, sometimes hardly audible.
A Pure Sine Wave Inverter will never produce a humming noise
