It will only switch of if there is no power, in other words hit the switch at the wall..... eish... unless you have the button pressed to tell it to switch over to the batteries. The beep is telling you it is gonna switch over to the batteries when the power goes off.

So i need t leave the button pressed in order to automatically yransfer the power whe electricity goes off..

So when you go to town, just make sure it does not show "LINE MODE". Then all will be cool and it won't switch over to batteries. You don't need to unplug anything.

To be extra clear :
Line mode = Batteries will kick in when eskom goes off.

So what you were asking is when you are NOT home and you DON"T want the batteries to kick in, then press the button so that its blank, like the very first picture you sent.

I was also confused for a moment when I got mine (MECER). But then it actually made sense. Also I though the fan does not switch off because it showed 100%, then after an hour it switched off. Mine looks a little bit different but same principle.

Will only 100AH batteries fit and where is the best place to buy, Pretoria preferably.
Mine is dead not even a light, fan or nadat comes on. Haven't used it for a few months

There are many different sizes you can put on it.
I use 2 2kva ups, each comes with 2x 7ah batteries, I've redone them with 20x 7ah batteries each. Before you ask why, I got the batteries free second hand.

Also my ups will not start if the battery is completely dead, I have to either charge it a bit some other way or connect another good battery in parallel to fool it into booting then disconnect the good battery.
Those inverter units may be different since they charge at much higher rates than my ups.

I opened it up and there are 2 105AH batteries in currently both dead.

Getting 2 x 105AH batteries delivered today Royal Deep Cycle @ R1450 incl each

Good price from what I've seen, have you managed to test the dead one's by charging with an external charger?

I dislike wasting, sometimes even though their capacity will be trashed, i re-purpose half capacity batteries for random projects, like a solar garden lighting system or something. I'd pop my "dumb" car battery charger or something on it that will put out 12amps without caring.
 
It's not a great idea to get an inverter/UPS of this size with a one 12V battery.
Better to get a 24V system..
Just because it is 12V doesn't restrict it to one battery. You can link many 12V batteries, in parallel, to increase the Ah (storage) without changing the voltage.

The reason smaller inverters use 12V is cost (you only need one battery to start with, rather than a minimum of 2 for a 24V or 4 for a 48V system) and versatility (you can use it when camping and not have to have a 24V system in your car).

The other reason is the low draw on the battery. With a draw of 600W from a 12V/100Ah with 50% DoD you will get about 1 hour of usage (disregarding the efficiency of the inverter).

You must never let the battery discharge below 50%, so that gives 1 hour
Modified sine wave inverters (typically used in smaller inverters) are only 75-85% efficient. At 80% you now have 48 minutes.
You generally don't use more than half the inverter rating so 300W will last you 1 hour and 36 minutes.
Your TV, media box / decoder and a few lights will quite comfortably run for over 2 hours.

If you plan to run at the full 600w then you need to add a second and even a third battery to be able to make it through load shedding. 3x100aH/12V, 600W, 50% DoD and 80% efficiency = 2 hours and 24 minutes.
The only other problem is small inverter systems have small battery chargers. So your batteries will take a long time to charge.

I see plenty of 12V UPS's being thrown out (or being used as door stops)
I have a few here for anyone who wants to collect..
Remember that the design for these devices is targeting the US market which has a 120V grid voltage.
We have double that voltage so the inverter has to double the final voltage which you pay a price for with a 12V UPS with high battery current..
