eNatis costs double

all due to elements beyond the department's control
i presume that excludes the bribes and the other gravy

Hahaha of course they did accept bribes :)
For the government to spend so much money, the IT company scored huge time...

They should of tested the system before going live online...
They spend a fortune on hardware, routers, switch etc.. If not mistaken

She said the department was still paying technology consortium Tasima, which won the contract to supply the system, R6m a month for "ongoing work".

That's a LOT of money just for "ongoing work"...

Maybe somebody's lining their nasty pocketses?

Inflation??

51mil for "consumer inflation" ??? Someone help me out here. How do they do that calculation, is it over a year compounded monthly? Plain arithmetic tells me thats 14+% of the original total. Now who is spinning yarns? Certral Statistics with a monthly inflation of single figures, or me been daft, or a few mil hidden under inflation? Infaltion costs are very very difficult to analise.

Often the following principal rules: If you do not understand the bullsh*t you are fed with, you simply can not disagree or argue with it!

You mean to tell me their original costing never factored VAT in???
And costing 6M a month... for what exactly? Development? How many devs do they have working on this thing for 6M a month? 200 developers earning 30K a month comes to 6 mill.

I don't mind the eNatis system costing a lot of money. Just as long as the lot of money includes (bribes) good service and proper performance and a decently working system.

And obviously it has to be worth its money to us.

All of these public projects seem to overshoot their targets by at least 2x. Same with Gautrain, Pebble bed reactor (thats at 4x I think). Stadiums will be the same.

Nobody in gov seems to be capable of managing money and/or budgeting.

R6m a month for ongoing work? Surely this cannot be true. R72m a year? What are these guys building here ... Africa's own NSA? This is gravy production at its best.

My father was on the board of directors for the Pebble bed. Someone screwed up with the budget (and did it in such a way that it still seemed plausible).

I want to see how scope creep can end up costing nearly R100m for something like enatis?...

and hardware to the tune of R44m? thats mental...

That's one hell of scope creep if you ask me. It should have been a whole new tender!

But the hardware figure sounds about right if they had to set up new sites, with new server farms, licenses, maintanance and so on.

Anything over R100 million for this system is just pure corruption. And even that is pushing it.

I tend to agree with icyrus, anything over R100m for this system is pure corruption... R100m in scope creep is a BOAT load of extra development time... and I've not seen anything of eNatis that even suggests it needs that much development time in total, let alone for scope creep.

sox63 : I dunno, the R44.9 + R39m was just for NEW sites that were included in the scope creep effectively... we don't know what the original hardware cost was.... but R80 m for extra hardware and sites seems incredibly excessive.

4x (or whatever) is one hell of a budget screw-up...especially on a project/concept which a few European countries already dropped as unfeasible. Hope your dad managed to get out with his rep intact.

The "expanded mandate" increases, following requests by the provinces...

Expanded mandate? What, did they request that the system must actually work?

I was thinking about eNatis again the other day. Does it have all the features integrated in yet?
