Yes, I am thinking of buying the cow . Now I need some advice on a ring please.
So basically I would like to get a good looking/quality ring for as cheap as possible. I am not looking for an investment or anything (there are better ways to invest) besides it would probably end up getting lost in a public toilet or something like that :p... I would be glad to pay sub 10k if possible. Yes, yes call me a cheap ass if you want, I would rather spend the money on something useful. I already have a good idea of what she is looking for and also have her finger size.

-Is it always better/cheaper to get a ring from a proper jeweller instead of a chain store? /Please recommend some stores that won’t break the bank?
(Been looking at various places like American Swiss, NWJ, Galaxy & co, Sterns, Browns and http://www.diamondrings.co.za)
-Would it be worth is to get it designed/custom made (keep price in mind)?

Any further advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I never understand why a guy has to buy a ring for her when the dude inevitably ends up with a rusty ball-and-chain!

check out browns first, the quality is def worth the little extra moola and you can tell the difference between browns and stern, american swiss etc plus they have a sale on now :D so you can save beeg! lol oh one other thing i noticed with browns is that certain branches might have the exact ring cheaper for example the ring at cresta is 5k but at fourways the same ring is 7.5k .... goodluck and all the best

another reason why i was impressed with browns was that they gave us a browns bear and and a leather pouch etc for the ring, it's all these small things that make the experience better IMHO.

haha just kidding around, she knows I love her madly.

Go as cheap as possible. I'm talking a stainless steal ring with no stones. Girls love a guy who knows how to budget. Spend the rest of the money on that big high def TV and PS3 you've always wanted. She'll appreciate the fact that you are investing in both of your futures and not just a little piece of metal that only she wears.

Why does she need a ring? Is she going to go out of the kitchen?

You should get all the tips you need from your fiance-to-be. Its easy to get information without asking directly what they want. Just slow down when you walk past a jewellery shop window a few times then you will know what she expects.

If she expects a R40k ring then a R10k ring will simply not cut it, but maybe she is the more responsible type who would rather have a cheaper ring and spend the money on furnishing the house or a better honeymoon. The thing is, this is the one time she should get what she wants. If she expects a R40k ring but you could never afford that, then that will set the pace for your entire marriage. Say no to money grabbing bitches! (Unless they are supermodel hot and shag better than Jenna Jameson of course)
