we already have a books thread going so what is wrong in suggesting books to read if we know another forumite might enjoy it?

Nothing wrong with it. Just that this particular thread is about 'English Literature Discussion' in the form of a prescribed book club as opposed to being a suggested reading list.

I agree with Milano, that is what the idea was if no one is interested that is just the way the cookie crumbles. If everybody decides that this thread must become what Rwenzori has so wonderfully suggested(love the idea, and you totally convinced me to read the book, I loved the movie) then again that is how the cookie crumbles. Majority rule.

sorry for sloppy post's I am stealing seconds to check and respond.

Agreed. Both are worthy. SR just remember you posted this on a weekend (when traffic is low). There may be more support when it is viewed in the week. Only need 8 more people. So, I would persist in 'marketing' the idea for a week or so and then if there really is no interest then a suggested reading list is worthy as a second prize.

I'll go with this - good plan.

I think rwenz has the right idea on the thread. It's better to post a recommendation than a prescribed reading list. This isn't a coffee club :p

I read Catch 22 years ago, but I have to admit I found it a bit of a one trick pony even if the trick was a dazzling one. I also tried reading God Knows by Heller but didn't find it held my attention. My personal feeling is that Heller is more of a soundbite artist than a genuine novelist.

Has anyone read Gabriel Garcia Marquez? One of the greatest living writers IMO.

Lol,

I just replied to your post on my query thread.
Good to see that you made it to us.

Concerning the prescribe reading list; I think its an easier idea, but as the others have pointed out the idea is for it to be a traditional book club where we all decide together what to read.

Well it only scored 6.2 on imdb. One review said the feeling of the book was not transmitted at all.

It was supposed to be a bit rubbish. Whoever thought of filming Marquez should be hanged anyway.

That would be far more impressive if I knew how many books you had actually read :D

I have read hundreds of books!! I can go (and I do this) and show people whole shelves in libraries that I have finished reading. but.... I only read Fantasy so unless you're into that genre I guess you could say I have spent my life reading crap :) (but I dont think so)
