Epic Chinese Android phone

The best Android phone you can buy in SA for R1900 will probably be a second hand Galaxy S or something. New you can get a Galaxy Ace or Pocket and those are really crap low end devices. I must agree with the OP for the price this looks like a great phone. If you can live with no guarantee and no future OS updates that is...

I'm sure there are ways to install new roms?

I'd really like JB for the smoothness

It would be really funny if anyone had a problem with these "cheap Chinese phones" when just about everything else they own is also made in China

I want. Is it possible for the OS to report faked specs?

Have no idea.....

BTW guys here is a screen I took after antutu bench. Looks good? Not really sure if its good or bad.

5002 antutu score. Is that good or average? I'm not sure what other phones get? I know the s3 get way higher than that....

S3 scores 11858, considering its a quad core at 1.4ghz.... 5k on that device seems legit...

I would say the screen quality and resolution is very good actually but the brightness of the screen even on full brightness is not so bright. That does not efect you at night or indoors but in the sun maybe its another story. Won't know its cloudy here.

Yes the version I got DID NOT have google play store. Instead the chinese version of appcloud which has all the play store free apps.

6 hours running with very light use it used about 8% battery. I have not tried any multi touch stuff yet but will let you know.

Well for starters. I had the HTC Desire. I would say it performs a tad bit better than that with 1 major exception. The screen brightness.

Now that looks like a awesome phone too and @ a cheaper price than what I paid for mine.....

ALSO. I SAY AGAIN. Some of these phone especially the chinese version. They sometimes ship the EU version too but mostly the chinese version. It does not have Google Play Store and simply installing the apk DOES NOT WORK.

You need to use the 1 click wonder zip I found on xda that gives you full root and gapps. Its simply click and you are done. But if you don't do this you will have to install ALL the APK manually.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30580751&postcount=14

I did save it on my pc incase the links go dead. It works on all the MTK6575 and MTK6577 phones and gives full root with gapps installed.

If you get a chance it would be cool to see some close up pics of the phone to show the build quality...

Yes a lot of chinese phones report fake specs, but antutu or any benchmark apps tells the truth.

THL is a relatively medium sized brand in China, a lot of HTC rip off and cheap MTK processors

But these MTK processors are getting better and better....5k score on antutu, motor razr scores 6k...so not bad at all...its just built a bit cheap...those 1.9k phones probably sells for like 1.2k in China

Can you test if you can install the FNB app and run it, no need to logon just open it. I've seen a few of the china mobiles that will not run the FNB app.

My Xperia P is similar specwise and clocks in at 4800 so yeah pretty good

Looks great. I don't suppose you can show the screen next to something equivalent like the Desire or whatever?

I can't even install it. I think FNB has blocked any unknown or forein phones from using this app. Its funny they did that cause my Nedbank credit card works nice with the Nedbank Android app. Runs smooth without errors.

This is the only good phone I have here. I have a blackberry bold 9900 but its can't really compare. Will bump the thread if I can get a phone to compare with. I might be able to get a s3 but its not really a fair comparison

I like the dual sim option! Wish the other manufacturers will bite at the idea!

Me too. Some phones even have 4 sim slots.

I think its epic. Look at how you can customize the settings for the dual sim. When calling by simply draging down the bar on top you can easily select which network if you wanted to.

And my home screen with the galaxy s3 live wallpaper with my nedbank app.

The dual sim is a very good option. All the dual sim phones I see are cheap dud battery makes.

Yeah this would really be interesting to see.

EDIT: Just saw in the link posted in op that the screen is listed as having 260k colours. Weird for a screen of 720p resolution. I thought 16m was the standard nowadays.

EDIT2: Also, is the front facing camera really 3.2mp ? :what:

260k I really doubt. That infor is wrong. I watch 720p series on it..... yes it actually plays .mkv and all other formats like mp4 and avi without any software needed. Just with the standard video player. And the picture is crystal clear. I doubt a 260k screen will produce colours like that to be honest.

The front facing camera. Not sure if it is 3.2 or not will check it out. Have not used it yet. In fact I don't use camera a lot.

Did you ship it here via their free option, ie airmail and pray ? or via DHL?
