Epic Chinese Android phone

Always wondered why the name brands don't have the dual sim option.

How's the battery life so far? Did it come with an external charger / dock for the spare batteries?

Because the networks won't tolerate dualsim handsets. For example Vodacon would hate it if their contract customers had dualsims and could use Cell c or 8ta sim for much cheaper data usage.

Nokia makes a lot of dual sim phones for the rest of Africa and the HTC One V even has a dual sim option. Here in SA we have the greed of the network operators to thank once again.

I'm also running a Chinese dual sim android clone and FNB installed fine, just wondering why yours does not take

Battery when on idle last 3 days. With moderate usage 2 days. With heavy emails, twitter, facebook, watsapp and youtube streaming it last 1 day. I think it actually not bad. Battery is lasting quite a while and to think I still got 2 extra batteries is a comforting thought.

How long did it take to arrive after you ordered it

Mine took about 2 weeks 4 days for date of order. Could be less or more cause SA Post Office tracking did only update 1 day before it was at the post office.

Cavedog, thanx for all the non-bias info. I'm sold, ordered one.

So I want to bump this thread again cause I feel like I need a nice big tab to go with my android phone I bought.

http://www.gizchina.com/2012/09/12/exclusive-pipo-m1-16ghz-android-jelly-bean-tablet-hands-on-video/

That TAB LOOKS EPIC???????

Not to mention the price WHICH is so cheap AGAIN..... Now what you guys think.

Coupon: PM1

It will bring the price to $198.71 with free airmail china post or add a extra $4.77 for Singapore post or $40.44 for DHL

R1622 for a pretty decent tab.... What you guys think. I'm really keen on getting myself 1.

:wtf: That does indeed look epic.... What will custom fees be like? Is it the $4.77 shipping insured?

Not quite sure. I am going to buy it tonight. Will bump this thread or create a new one once I get it. The shipping I don't think is insured but not really sure. the $4.77 is just to send it via singapore post and not china post. China post is the free shipping. I had phones sent with china and singapore post before and both have no problem delivering.

Ohh the custom fee at the post office would most likely be less than R50. I paid R53 when I colleced the THL phone from the post office so I doubt it would cost more than that.

Dunno if I missed this in the thread, but:

Are their ROMS, kernels and the like out there to play around with on this/these kinds of devices?
Rooting is one thing - but what about Launchers, custom themes and the like?

Roms have to be specifically designed for a device. There are hardware and drivers to be considered. You can't flash any old Rom on that device as you will most certainly end up with a shiny white door stopper!

You can try launchers like Apex, Nova or Holo all of which have support for themes and customisations...

Phone still doing well? My friend is considering buying one.

Still working well. Today recieved 2 calls at the same time 1 with each simcard while using my 3G connection to read a email in gmail.

Connect with wifi at night. Actually connects to ad hoc wifi networks fine. Battery still keeping up quite well considering. Can't complain AT all. I think its a better investment than the stupid blackberry bold 9900 I got from MTN.

When I pull this phone out of my pocket people kinda treat it like a R8000 phone. The other day I showed someone a email on it and he was acting like he was holding Gold. So it generally gives one the perception that its a good and "expensive" phone. You must see their face when I tell them how cheap I bought it for.

Anyways love it, won't trade it for anything right now except for this http://www.antelife.com/free-shippi...re-4-5-qhd-capacitive-touch-screen-black.html

Now that, although similar spec wise has gorilla glass where mine has not and not to mention the stronger battery AND metal casing and at a cheaper price too. Not in stock yet thats why I just went and bought the THL.

Do some shopping first. There are plenty other phones that are just as good or even better than the one I have for cheaper.

Just waiting for my pipo m1 tab to come now. God I hate the free shipping option cause it takes a while.

You can get a $5 discount on antelife if you use the coupon code youtube

Just pre ordered the g3 and the updated g2. Both got the same processor. Chose the free option so should be awhile before it arrives. Will update once I get it.

"Facebook" also works as coupon, but they don't stack unfortunately.

Thanks for the update on the phone, cavedog! I'm now also looking to get one of these babies. Think I'll wait for the G3 that you mentioned!
