EPL 2011 Summer Transfers

If inter had really accept a bid it would be all over the italian sites but there is zilch except for those running the mirror story and using the mirror as the sources. Will know in the next month.

In other news juve completed the signing of vucinic for €15 million.

Out of interest, what insults were they slinging at you smokey?

Just think of most of the the stuff said to Chelsea fans these days, and that;s about it.

"Bandwagon jumper"
"New money"
"Buying your success"
etc
etc

This, despite Chelsea having won nothing of note (CWC notwithstanding... it actually meant something back then). I mean it's all normal footy banter, but they would drone on and on and on and on about it whenever footy was brought up. My mate (who actually got me supporting footy) and I could never talk about actual football without some bloody Liverpool supporter snidly making some stupid comment about Chelsea. Of course there was a bit of banter from all supporters, but those Liverpool lads just rubbed everyone the wrong way. I mean, I had better footy conversation with Man Utd supporters and Arsenal supporters than with those Liverpool gits who just kept trolling everyone. Gits.

EDIT: It was hardly ever ad hominem, sorry if it originally sounded that way. Though some of it was, but I gave as good as I got.

EDIT2: In short, they were the Cantera's of the school yard. Only thing is... they didn't have a treble winning squad backing their bull****. I understood the United supporters being all high and mighty after winning the treble, but they calmed down after a few months. These people were like ****ing motormouths.

Was this before or after 2005?

The more, the merrier, the sooner the clubs can ditch UEFA and form a proper bloody PanEuropean Competition. Market forces at work my man, market forces at work.

Wait, do you think financial fair play is a bad thing?

Yes. If a club can spend lots of money - why not allow it? If you take Shinawatra or Portsmouth as the general rule then yeah - maybe FFP would be a good idea. What most people forget to mention is Walkers and Blackburn (although they had little chance, as they were competing with a rampant Fergie), Berlusconi and Milan, Bernabeu and Madrid... the list is endless. The fact of the matter is that FFP has never been an issue until FOREIGN owners started coming in. This stupid, juvenile and naive knee-jerk reaction is against the evolution of the game.

EDIT: Man United and the Stock Exchange, where was the FFP in all that?

Quite simply, you shouldn't be spending more than you can afford. Thats quite a simple rule for any business.

If the banks and investors say you are good for the loans they give to spend more then you earn then I don't see how its anyone's business. This is the way the big clubs have been running for many many years, the fact that some smaller clubs failed by trying to play the big boys way doesn't mean that things should be changed.

I am with smokey on letting the clubs run the way they see fit. Most of these clubs are run by successful businessmen and families who know what they are doing.

You could argue that Chelsea are in the position they are in because they tried to "play with the big boys" pre Abramovich's days. They had amassed crazy debt and were heading for collapse until RA came and saved the day. Irony 101.

I have no respect for a club that tries to buy champions league football or trophies rather than investing in proper youth development, sound business models and overall sensible spending. Also, expenditures on youth development, community development and infrastructure are not included in FFP which encourages investment there. That's a great thing.

In my opinion, if you are anti FFP which is obviously aimed at encouraging fair competition in Europe - then you obviously aren't playing fair.

I was gonna write an entire long post, but stefan9 put it succinctly enough.

Portsmouth over-extended without getting anywhere. Chelsea overextended and won a few trophies (at the time, the Cup Winners Cup still meant something btw). If we had been bound by the current FFP rules, we never would have gotten into the ECL and would have been a far less desirable target for Roman. Sure, there was risk - but that's what life is about. Risk.

Nothing is fair in life.

Also with the FFP it basicly puts the clubs who do not own their own stadium and who do not have the global income of some others at major disadvantage even if they have wealth owners who have for a long time invested in them.

IMHO its BS to tell the likes of berlusconi, moratti, the sheikh's,ect they can't spend their own money on their clubs as they wish.

That is hardly fair imho.

There will always be the haves and have nots of the game.

All that is now going to happen is owners will need to find sneaky ways in order to pump their money into their clubs. You will have a lot more shady sponsorship deals.

'Pool will do well to snap up Enrique. Barton had an outstanding last season, bar his extra curricular activities.

Kenny on Sky yesterday says prognosis for Stevie looking good.Should be back next month, even Capello misses Stevie G ;)
