Am I right in thinking that to play the Beta one has to pre-purchase the game?
Are the higher tier options worth the extra cost? Is a larger backpack that valuable?
Everything you get in the higher tiers can be lost, except:
Gamma Container - Stuff which you put in this container is not lost when you die. The "normal" tier gives you a 2x2 Alpha container, whereas the Gamma Container you get with Edge of Darkness is 3 x 3. This really helps a LOT, especially when you start taking keys with you into a raid. Or you want to take ALL the meds you are likely to need, and don't just want to lose everything when you die.
Extra inventory space - self explanatory. Helps a lot, especially in the early game, but you dont really need it.
Trader Standing - You need to spend money with them and do missions to increase your standing with traders, allowing you to buy better stuff from them.
Tactical Tomahawk - this is a melee weapon, which you don't drop on death.
Pistol case - As long as you don't take it with you into battle, you wont lose it.
I started with the normal version and upgraded to Edge of Darkness over the weekend, just to up my enjoyment a bit with the larger container and stash. You can upgrade afterwards, and it is sickeningly expensive. They price they quote is excl 15% vat, exl R100 or so transaction fee, and then you get a shitty exchange rate as well.
When I just bought the game, I took my only AK, armour and rig I got with me into battle. While standing around, adjusting my mouse speed, someone killed me, and I pretty much lost my best starting gear.
The only other MP FPS I've play that I enjoyed this much, was Counter-Strike 1.6 back in the day.
PubG was good, but this is much better. Apex was meh. Battlefield was great with friends, but this is SO much better. CoD is CoD....
As I've said before, this is the only MP FPS I even consider playing on my own in the last 5 years.
