Apparently eSim is available on CellC , found the link below , reached out to the @cell_c rep here who confirmed its available, i can't find any more information online , whether its contract only or available on pre paid.

Am I correct in assuming you simply walked in and requested the 'eSIM activation voucher'?
Did you use a pre-existing number or did this allocate a new number ?

This was a new number. Normal RICA requirements apply

I honestly don't see why not but I'm planning to go in and find out.

UPDATE: I was about to go in store. You can perform a port. In my case the RICA’d the eSIM and initiated the port request.

I called cellc's 135 twice to ask where in Johannesburg I could a cellc esim voucher. The first agent didn't know what esim is. In the second call the agent suggested google and if I cannot get one from Cellc to try with Vodacom or MTN.

From my personal experience it's a hit or miss situation trying to get an eSIM from the major carriers

Vodacom offers it on contract only. They presently say it can only be used for phones. However you can opt for their OneNumber offering which extends it to a wearable I.e. one cell number for you phone and your watch.

MTN told me it's on contract only but you need to buy an eSIM compatible device from them .

Cell C was the most straight forward for me having walked into their Canal Walk branch. I just am not sure why there haven't been any prwss releases / official launches yet.

No word from Telkom but I did a MyBB thread with a comment around a planned release end of February.

My key takeaways from the whole ordeal were that the contact centers aren't helpful as the agents are barely ever trained.
There's a disconnect in the information you'll get from one branch to another.

They a bunch a special needs.

Gonna give the CellC one a go tomorrow if I get time to go to the mall
