eSim is available on CellC

I had assumed those QR codes are universal just to kick off the process with basic details etc.

But even a QR code is a weird thing to have in stock because surely if it’s unique then it needs to be specially generated for you?

QR-codes simply encode a URL which downloads the provisioning information to your phone, therefore you need an internet connection and credentials to log into the system. The QR codes are not specific to the user.

There's no reason why provisioning data cannot be downloaded from an app or indeed a web page but there you go, I'm not a network operator. One example of such a technique is a company called UBIGI, a very useful solutions for travelers...

You can get one online from me&you mobile, which ironically runs on Cell C. Why all the networks can't implement this is beyond me. Would think the easier it is to get a sim the better for the network?

Well I would agree, I don't know why Vodacom and mtn think that eSims are some sort of Premium functionality that they can charge extra for!

Cell C has its detractors but, is, for example the only network in the world as far as I know, that supports International Wi-Fi calling.

I like CC.

Nope, don't sweat the small stuff, dumped the note 20 ultra and got the s23 ultra, just loaded esim and normal sim and it works ok
 
Have a new iPhone 14 and am using CellC on a pay as you go plan.
The screen offers to set up an eSIM and to transfer the number from an existing (iPhone) which has a physical SIM
All well and good, but the old phone does not offer to transfer the number
Called 084135
I need to pay R199,00 for a QR code
Went to CellC store in KC and paid this. QR code will be sent to old phone
That was 21st April
Back to CellC store. The QR code has expired as I did not use it
Staff now discussing amongst themselves whether QR code is sent to old phone or new phone. I ask how they are going to send a QR code to a phone that has yet to have a number.
Apparently it is a link. I do not understand they say, leave it to us
Anyway, now 30th April and nothing has happened
New phone working with standard SIM card

They need to give you the QR code in the store. No links, try another store as it’s technically an sim-swap

If you wish to do a SIM SWAP, you must obtain a new activation QR Code in order to activate your eSIM profile.

I am asking why you would pick up a Galaxy watch over an Apple watch. Nothing to do with esims. You should try to keep up
